Hi, everyone! My very first post after 'lurking' here for a few days, reading what others have to say and marvelling at the magnitude of what lies ahead. My date is April 17th. It should have been February 14th, but it had to be postponed after I fainted on a plane, ended up in hospital in Dubai with bronchitis, came back to Beirut, where it turned into pneumonia and I ended up in hospital here for a week, where lots of other things also went awry. It's been a pretty awful time one way and another, and there were times when I thought the life-changing sleeve was never going to happen, but it's back on track again.

Today I am doing a 24-hour pH-metry, so have a comical-looking tube coming in a big hoop shape out of my nose (much to the amusement of my friends and colleagues), the other end of which has a sensor which is monitoring the pH levels down at the lower oesophageal sphincter so that my surgeon knows for sure whether I have acid reflux before the surgery. I have no symptoms of it (thankfully, given all the other health hassles I have had!) but it can be asymptomatic, so he wants to be sure before he opens me up. The catheter is very uncomfortable and I can't wait for it to come out tomorrow morning, but I am very relieved that he is taking the possibility so seriously. He's a nice chap and the most experienced bariatric surgeon in Lebanon, so I trust I am in good hands! I need things to go smoothly, as my family is thousands of miles away in the UK and I have a new job in Africa waiting for me as soon as I am well enough to make the move. It's going to be a big year...

Anyone else out there scheduled for the 17th? I must say that there is definitely strength in numbers and it looks as if the April cohort is a big one! All the best to all of us!

I am scheduled for this Friday, April 6, 2012! Yay two more days bayybeee yeeee! okay how im feeling, nervous, anxious, scared, restless, hopeful, and greatful! This Friday is also good Friday, and Sunday is Easter which most of us know was when Christ was ressurected, what a wonderful day to come out of recovery and start MY new life. This is all such a blessing, i am praying for strength during the surgery and wisdom for afterwards so i dont revert back to my old ways. Congrats to everyone who is with me this fine month in starting our "new lives" at such a wonderful time!

Hay Sleevers!

Out of surgery and into my room- surgery went well but I had to wait an extra hour in pre-op for the room to be available and the waiting is the HARDEST part (so far).

I'm feeling good, I did have to have a hernia repair, so surgery took longer than I thought. Kinda feeling restless, I can't wait to walk.

So- I'm just chilling in my room sucking on icechips (godsend), enjoying Seinfeld re-runs and loving the drugs!

5 hrs post op update.

I'm up and doing laps around the unit- have walked about 25 laps. Pain is minimal, the three things that are uncomfortable are:

1) Dry throat & mouth. I am allowed icechips and Water to sip, but it's not enough. My Dr won't allow me to suck on SF cough drops :(

2) anesthesia gas pain. It is like a consistent dull ache. It's moved put of my back and into my r shoulder.

3) saggy stomach pulling on my incisions. It's not painful per se- just kinda uncomfortable.

I have no problem getting water and ice chips down, although I am paranoid about taking tiny sips so I don't do anything to my new sleeve!

I'm praying for a thumbs up on the leak test tomorrow so I can go home. Will do my best to keep on updating.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts April sleevers

Holy cow I fly to San Diego tomorrow and surgery is Friday! I am so nervous and so excited at the same time. I'm just ready to start my "new" life. Anyone else gonna be getting sleeved by Garcia on Friday? My name is Jen and I look forward to meeting anyone else that may be getting it done. I'm off to sleep, then up at 5 to head to the airport. Wish me luck!!

M scheduled for my surgery April 26th and I was curious to see who else would be walking in the shoes of April with me. Tell me how you feeling? What's on your mind? Any worries? Second thoughts?

Mine is scheduled for April 9th. I currently live in central Texas but will be moving to Corpus Christi for graduate school. Even though I am on the liquid diet, I am still having a hard time believing it because it has been moved once already. I have my anesthesiology appointment tomorrow. I think it will settle in after that. I am a little worried, mostly because I have never had to be under anesthesia of any kind. I have been waiting since Mid-October, but I am still apprehensive. I know it is the right thing to do since I have back problems that can only benefit from weight loss. I also decided to do this when I began having blood pressure problems. Many people in my family die of heart failure and I would like to live a nice long life for my family. Also, I found out my mother had over 1/2 of her stomach removed for about 20 years before she passed away and had no complications of it. In fact, no one in the family had any idea and they lived right down the street from us. This knowledge made me much less nervous about long term repercussions. I remember she was always thin and rarely hungry and had to remind herself to eat. I am looking forward to tomorrow and hoping that all goes as it is supposed to. I am confident in my surgeon and have a great support system to help me through.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
