If they are almost healed, I just used a waterproof bandaid and was only in for an hour. use your own judgement!

Personally I would not get in Water till my incisions were totally healed. I definitely would not immerse my body in the ocean with the potential of a bacterial contamination. I would not trust a bandaid to be leak proof. The sacrifice of waiting a few extra days is nothing compaired to a post surgical wound infection.

Salt Water contains MANY bacteria and one of them is especially nasty Vibrio species (have to use a special antibiotic causes nasty blisters and BAD INFECTIONS)......don't get in the salt water until your doctor says it is ok......now a chlorine pool might be different....check with your doctor.....

I agree with supermom, and even after your doc says ok, you might want to consider using some Water proof band aids (test them under running water ) for a little while, its better safe than sorry.

That is if you had laporoscopic surgery. That being said I am not sure how good those things are in salt Water, I have used them in pools and they work well if you put them on right and are not in for hours (clean the area where you are going to stick the band aid with alcohol, but not the cut only the skin where the sticky still will go, it will help it stick better.)

My incisions were all healed but the drain port was a very thin layer of new skin...so just as a precaution I used a Water proof bandaid (not in salt water)...but a regular swim pool....was in for 1 hr...and when I removed the waterproof bandaid, the incision was not wet, damp and had no condensation, was completely dry....Now they are all healed over really good with the brown looking scar....

So I would say follow what your doc says....mine said I was perfectly fine to resume normal activity with the exception of ANY TYPE tummy crunching...he said to wait 6 weeks for that.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
