I had surgery last week and everything seems to be okay but each time I take a sip of anything it seems like there is a gas bubble in my throat. This is from the first sip so I know it isn't because I am trying to drink too much. I am taking something for reflux but I don't think that is the problem. Has anyone else encountered this? What did you do/take? Thanks.

That is common. Your sleeve is swollen and even little bits take some time to get down and through it. And there is a LOT of gas after the surgery. It does get better though.

Very normal!!! Mine went away at the end of week 2!!! Try walking a lot and gas x if it bothers you too much. My doctor gave me that magnesium something liquid, I believe is the generic of milanta.

Gas lasts about a month or so is what I've heard and what I've experienced. Anytime you put a bunch of air in your abdomen for surgeries like C-sections, etc., you have that problem for awhile.

It does get better. And my husband and also my yoga trainer found it quite humorous.

Hope that helps ...

Carol

Thanks for the info. At least I know it isn't anything unusual and it sounds like it resolves itself quickly. I'm feeling pretty okay other than that so I'm not complaining. I haven't had nausea -- thank goodness -- so I figured it wasn't drinking too quickly or anything else.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
