I Like To Know How Long Are You Guys Off From Work

Recommended Posts

Like to know how long are you guys off from work, I work in a food factory and my job is central lab tech because it look like some are off a few weeks, I thought I would only be off work a couple of weeks. What do the doctors request for you taking work time spam

My job mostly involves me sitting at a desk and putting out fires caused by other people over the phone.

I was back after two weeks. I kinda went in a little late and home a little early (10-4, worked through lunch since I could only take a small bite every few minutes anyway). Every few minutes I would have to get up and walk around because sitting was still uncomfortable on my incisions. I was fine. Just as comfortable at work as I was at home.

I went back on a Wednesday and I have to tell you that by Friday I was exhausted. But, I think that had alot to do with pressure from some deadlines that I had to meet.

At my support group last night someone asked this same question. I was probably the earliest in the group, although another lady who worked from home "went back" at a week and a half. The average for everyone else was 4 weeks (some 3, some 5 or even more). I think its a very individual thing based on how your recovery goes.

Hope that helps!

I'm returning on my fourth post op day. I work a very low key desk job though, and fully expect to be in twelve shades of hell for awhile. Can't be helped... no sick pay!

I took two weeks off but was definitely up and around no problem at 4 or 5 days. I have a job where I mostly sit and I was able to focus on sipping my Water / Protein Shake. I think there are several issues to consider. One is physical exertion since your body needs time to heal and you may feel more fatigue due to healing and lack of calories. If your job is physically demanding, you may need much more time. The other issue is that you really need to focus on getting fluid/protein in. If you fall behind it's difficult to make it up since you can only take in so much every 8 to 10 minutes in the begining. At least for me, it was a lot of work. Then you get into a routine, plus your body heals and your capacity starts to increase. I can say that when I hit week two, my energy was great and I pretty much felt normal. The only thing is I was still having to focus on fluid/protein, later food.< /p>

I just wanted to clarify my post above: I meant to say that if you have a job that allows you to keep sipping your fluids it helps. If your job takes you out and about in such a way that it's difficult to get your shakes and fluids in, it's more challenging the first couple of weeks for sure since that process does seem to consume lots of energy and focus - al least it did for me. Hope this is helpful!

It is going to depend on what type of a job you have. If you do heavy lifting it is going to be much longer than someone that does not do lifting and has a more sedentary job like sitting at a desk. I would talk to your doctor and explain your job and what you do during the day and he will be able to tell you when you can return. It you job is willing to make some adjustments for you it may be possible to go back sooner.

I went back after a week but I have a desk job too. I was VERY tired but I did okay. I could sip all day at my desk. I was extremely tired for at least two weeks and then it got better. I would suggest AT LEAST 2 or 3 weeks off so you can recover enough to do your job. After three weeks you are on full liquids/mushies and you will have more energy then.

I was told that after 3 weeks should be ok. I work 3 12-hour shifts a week as a nurse .... that seems kind of fast, so we will see how that goes :)

I think you are amazing for going back to work within a week a two! I went back after a month, so glad I waited. Went back I was exhausted lost a pound a day for a week from moving! But I was able to take breaks, sit and get fresh air. Its tiring but it's worth it.

I recommend post ops to take as long as they can resting because this is the only time we have for this break on our busy lifestyle.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
