Eating Before The Surgery

Recommended Posts

  1. I found out yesterday my surgery date is March 19th and I have already planned 4 meals that I want to have before my liquid diet starts on Monday. How bad is it? The meal I am having tonight is one that I will never have again because it is just filled with carbs and carbonation. Two others are actually not bad for you, I just know I won't be able to have them for a while, so I am going to have my sushi one night and steak another. The final thing is something that I will be having very very rarely because it is a dessert food. Any thoughts on this? I just know it is going to be a long time before I get my sushi and steak again and the last will be so rare I feel like I need to get it in. Did any of you do this? What did you think of doing it after your surgery? Any input I can get would be awesome.

Thanks all

I did have a couple of my most favorite foods before I had surgery also. I did not go pig wild as the reason I was having the surgery was to lose weight but I did enjoy pizza and steak. I had surgery on Dec 11. 2011 and it is going to be sometime before I have either of these.

Its okay about the pizza and coke. I'm glad I had it because my husband managed to ruin any enjoyment I get from either of those things. I'm really pissed, but its good that every time I look at them now I will be disgusted. One less unhealthy thing for me to like.

I ended up having one true food funeral before starting my liquid diet. The weekend before my liquid diet was to begin, my husband and I got together with friends and had sushi. It was nice. I ate enough, but not too much. It was a good "farewell for now" to the sushi. Someday, I'll have it again but in a different way.

My surgery date is March 19 too!! I have spent this last week before my week long liquid diet systematically eating all those things that I know I will miss. We have so far done big time Italian, Mexican, Chinese, and all the Desserts that I know will be replaced with healthier choices. I am trying really hard to not use the words NEVER AGAIN because it will freak me out. I wont lie, it is very anxiety provoking to know that I cant use food as my emotional medication after this. And I do love food. It is a pleasure in life. But I am looking forward to learning a new way to be passionate about food without sacrificing my body and health for it.

None of the foods mentioned above (except carbonated drinks, and there is debate about that) are totally off limits after surgery. Yes, it will be awhile before you will be able to eat steak and foods containing rice, like sushi, comfortably. But, you will be able to eat them again, just in much smaller portions. I've eaten one or two bites of rice since surgery. Rice and bread both fill me up super fast and aren't that appealing now because I'm concentrating on Protein every day. Now, if you ask me about cheetos...I'll find room in my sleeve for them! LOL

I've been eating steak comfortably since about 3 months out. I can only do 2-3 oz of steak at a time, but I can eat it. If I'm in a restaurant, I ask for it to be done a little less than I like, then it's perfect when I reheat it at home. I don't find much that I still crave from the carb side of food (see cheetos above!), and, if I really want something, I'll plan it into my daily meals and work around it on the Protein.< /p>

Lately, I'm finding that I just want something different to DRINK, though. I'm about watered out, even with the help of the Mio drops. I drink lots of Decaf tea and coffee and (shhhh), some decaf diet coke. A few days ago in Walmart, I found myself reading labels on everything in the drink aisle, looking for something that appealed to me without caffeine or citrus, which still upsets Rex (my sleeve). I've also been looking at all the Protein Bars out there to find one that sounds appealing. I'm sure the gal at walmart was chuckling because I bought a sample of every Protein Bar they had with more than 15g of protein that night.

Lissa, I know what you mean. I stopped drinking diet pepsi a couple months before my surgery before I even knew of this surgery just because I thought it would be healthier for me, but I must admit I miss it! Does the carbonation bother you? Also I don't know if you know or not, but Walmart has their own version of Mio, their Great Value brand, and it tastes exactly the same and is $2.00 less per bottle.

I'm almost 6 weeks out and have zero trouble with steak - been eating it easily for over a week now. The trick is to make sure its not cooked past medium for me - if it, my stomach can't tolerate it. Not to mention, you lose a lot of nutrients!

I made homemade pizza a week and a half ago - that was amazing - I just didn't eat the crust - which I didn't really miss because i didn't really eat it before either.

The only thing I haven't had that I had before was soda - don't really miss that either.

Thanks for the great advice. I love the fact that you gave it a name. :)

I had a friend comment last week that she finally has a reason to just eat the good stuff off a slice of pizza (the toppings). That made me excited. Never in my life have I had an excuse to "waste" a piece of pizza like that. I get to do it with 0 guilt too!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
