How Many Grams Of Protein Are Your Doctors Suggesting?

Recommended Posts

I'm struggling to get in 50 grams of Protein a day. My doc wants me to take in 80 grams. I've read any thing from 60 to 100 grams on this board. What has your doctor told you? .....and is anyone as bad as me? My daughter got in 80-100 grams a day and still had her hair fall out!

I strive for 70 grams a day, per doctor's orders. I also take Biotin and B-12 daily. The biotin helps encourage hair regrowth and the B-12 helps with my energy level. :)

My doctor said 60 but I don't think it's enough. I try to get between 80-100 a day.

I always get 70 but it took me a while to get to that number...and my hair feel out too. I take B-Beautiful from GNC. It helps with regrowth but didnt stop it from falling out. Just try each day do the best you can each day and one day it wont be such a struggle.

My doctor told me between 60-80, but at least 60/day. I stay around 70. Three months out and I still try top do one shake a day. Do do some of you further out still rely on shakes?

60g here. I normally have to have at least 1 shake a day to hit it.

I get in at least 65 a day and it was probably around 4-5 months out before I could do so without a shake or Protein supplement. I eat greek yogurt for Breakfast every day and that really helps. I still need a Protein Shake sometimes when I'm traveling.

here's a typical day for me at 9.5 months:

Wake up and have a soy latte (8-9 grams of Protein, depending on the soy milk I use)

Breakfast: Cup of non-fat Fage plain greek yogurt, 1 slice whole wheat toast, 1/3 cup fruit (23 grams protein for the yogurt, 3-4 grams for the toast)

lunch and Dinner: 3 oz. of solid protein and some vegetables. A little starch if I have room. (15-22 grams of protein depeding on whether I eat lunch meat, light cheese, chicken breast, shellfish, etc)

Favorite protein snacks: light cheese, beef Jerky, light salami, soy milk in a latte or sweetened with sugar free Syrup.< /p>

I am supposed to get at least 75 grams/day. I get pretty darn close most days but I refuse to still do shakes or supplements. I do a lot of chicken, lowfat cheese, etc. to hit my targets.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
