Any Oregon Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I'm in Medford Oregon and was sleeved almost three years ago by Dr. Aceves in Mexico. I've had really great success and no complications! Good luck with your surgery!

Thanks Julester. Wow three years! Any tips for long term success?

Woobs- don't sweat the liquid phase, it's really not that bad. After surgery you're not likely to want anything other than liquids anyway. It's hard to describe, you'll just have to see. I didn't get solids until 5 weeks out and it really didn't bother me.

I recommend getting some unflavored Protein Powder. I used both Syntax nectar brand and Unjury. I mixed the unflavored stuff into everything: broth, juice, Vitawater, Jello, etc.

as far as flavored shakes go I recommend you pick up some samples. I got my samples from Unjury, Nectar and Chike. My tastes didn't change at all after surgery, that may be true for you as well.

I am almost 4 months out and close to 50 lbs down. No complications, pain, issues with tolerating food, etc. this has been a great process for me so far. I feel normal, eating out with friends and at holiday meals. This is all so much better than I expected. I still have 30 lbs to lose but I feel pretty confident that it will happen.

Congrats on taking control of your life! Feel free to contact me anytime with questions or for support, I'm in Portland.

:)

Frza,

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm taking your advice and just going for it. I bought a container of unflavored Unjury and two sample packets each of strawberry and vanilla. I picked unjury because it sounds like it's heating up temperature is higher than nectar (140' vs 90'). Nectar sounds like they have more flavors though...any suggestions of which ones you liked?

Woobs

I really only used the unflavored Nectar. I have a tub of vanilla made by Body Fortress (it was in sale) and a tub of chocolate by EAS. I'm not too adventurous with the flavors. I mostly like adding plain to other things :)

I would like to try a mint / chocolate flavor at some point, but at 4 months out I only have about 1-2 shakes per week. It's too cold now, I want warm food & beverages. Maybe I'll go back to more shakes in the summer.

Yeah, I got the unflavored to add to Soups etc. I did buy myself a little bottle of sugar free raspberry flavored Syrup to add to chocolate or vanilla shakes--just to add a little variety. I'm curious about the nectar fuzzy navel and caribbean cooler I've read that the apple is awful.

I'm in inner NE (laurelhurst)...had band to sleeve revision on 12/29 at OHSU where i work. Dr Deveney was wonderful. Everyone was great. He told me to expect 2 days in the hospital but I went home the next day.

I was banded at good Sam 6 years ago...my surgeon then is no longer in the practice but I had a lot of follow up with Emma Patterson. She is wonderful and I would have gone back to her but our insurance wouldn't cover it. My experience at OHSU was great, even though I was nervous about having this kind of surgery as staff.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
