How Long Does Hair Loss Last?

Recommended Posts

Mine is just starting... I'll be interested to see what others have to say on this topic! Thanks for asking it!

Mine started almost immediately post-op and didn't stop really until about month 6-7.

From what I've read in this forum about this topic, everyone says that you never go bald - thats a good news! Coz I have had very thin hair even pre-op. That said, it is good to take Iron and Vitamin meds for Hair loss. My doc prescribed some for me and it does make a difference though only to a smaller degree for me because there was not enough 'material' to begin with LOL

started 4 and pretty much stopped at 6.

Try Biotin and a laser comb, I also use Ovation Shampoo.< /p>

I've never heard of a laser comb. What is it?

I started around 3-4 months and it was done by about 6 months. However, any time I drop low on my Protein for a long stretch I'll experience a bit more loss than usual, so if you're not diligent about your intake I think it could remain an issue. It's just one more way I'm forced to be accountable for my eating habits. :)

I took Biotin from pre-op and never noticed any difference. I did use Nioxin (since my husband already uses it) but I'm not really sure if it helped me or not, at least as far as stopping the loss. However, I did have very fast regrowth and am pretty sure it's due to the Nioxin. And unlike my husband, who cannot stop using the Nioxin for fear of losing more hair, I was able to stop using it without any adverse effects.

Honestly, I think this is just something our bodies go through and I'm not sure than any of the things we try really change the outcome. The shock of surgery followed by a drastically reduced intake and big losses on the scale is just too much for our poor bodies.

Luckily it only happens for a short while. But yes, when you're losing huge clumps of hair for weeks on end it can definitely get frightening!

Oh wait...this is for women? Because I've been losing my hair for 35 years and it will only stop when it's gone...

phew, this topic was reassuring. I started noticing my Hair loss at about 5 months out and at 7 months out, starting seeing Donald Trump when I look in the mirror. Glad to hear it won't last forever...wearing wigs in the Florida heat w/b no fun. I know my Protein intake is higher than my target and increasing Iron always scares the crap out of me - no wait, increasing iron has the opposite effect of scaring crap out of me, if you know what I mean. ;) Sorry Massindex but my mama always said grass doesn't grow on a busy street so maybe it's just cuz we think too much!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
