MIA~ But Expecting!

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd pop on tonight and post an update since I haven't been on in SOOo long.

We're expecting a baby!!

So now, when anyone asks me as they always do if I have any regrets with this band.. I say absolutely not because of this surgery I was granted the greatest gift of all, and something my hubby and I have been trying for 5 years to get. 14 months after surgery we were able to get pregnant after battling PCOS for the last 6 years.

I wish I would have lost more weight than I had, but its okay because I know I can loose even more after I have the baby in March. Now to find maternity clothes that would fit me haha!

I lost ~130 lbs from April 05 to current.. I've had a slight unfil (1cc) so that I am able to swallow prenatal Vitamins cut in half.. this has seemed to be a mistake though because in the last 3 weeks I've gained 7 lbs!!! I'm going to see if that's going to stablize and if not I will go back and get 1/2 cc added back until I'm 4-5 months prego and can afford to gain weight.

Anyhow.. thought i'd spend a second to share the great news!

Well congratulations!! This band seems to have allowed numerous babies to be born who might not otherwise have been conceived. Awesome!

Congratulations....we just found out that we are expecting too! I had my band completely unfilled last week and I have gained about 8 pounds since then! I couldn't believe it....I have been eating healthy (healthier than I have even eaten in fact) but I guess larger quantities is what has done it. We were on vacation for the past week and I kept hoping that it was Water weight from flying....but my doctor basically said "fat chance". Oh well....I am hoping it will level off so I don;t end up gaining 40 pounds over the next 8 months....but at least I know the band will help me lose it after I give birth.

One question for you....what is your OB/GYN's reaction to your band? Mine is completely panicked becasue he has never heard of it. They are making me go to a nutritionist and a Bariatric specialist for monitoring, and they are even considering me "high-risk". This is all crazy as far as I am concerned.....

Wow Look at all the preggo's.Congrats to you! You can add me to that list as well. Due in March. St. Patricks day to be exact.

I wish i had lost more weight. I lost only 62 pounds before getting PG.

I have still100 to go. But I am really happy. As far as the High risk. My Doctor said I am considered High risk as well. Just because of the band.

He has great knowlege of bariatric surgery. so Maybe it is something all DR.S do. I also had my band unfilled some. I am now at only 4 cc in a 10 cc band. I was just starting to get good restriction too.. Well good luck to you all Keep updating and feel weel.

My doctor is very familuar with the band, and actually knows my surgeon so I'm pretty happy. The surgeon said there was no reason to take more than 1 cc out at this time.. as long as I'm able to eat 2000-2300 calories a day and take the Vitamins everything will be fine.

haven't been told i was "high risk" yet.. but then again id assume since I am still overweight, I would be high risk regardless.

But as far as the band.. it doesnt cause any concerns for either my surgeon or my OB.

:) oh.. and i'm due March 17th also!

Try ginger chews before getting out of bed in the morning or gigner tablets, that is a great natural way to rid the morning sickness, also almond slivers before getting up, it has to be before you start to stir around. I took chewable prenates, and they were sooo easy, I have never done all that well with pills including preband. ~Mandy

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
