Bmi 36 With Diabetes, Anyone With Similar Story? How Are You Now?

Recommended Posts

I originally posted this in the pre op but realize now maybe it should be in the post. So I'm scheduled for surgery on 2/29. My BMI is 36 (5'7 240). I have severe diabetes that helped me get approved with my insurance. I've been a diabetic for approximately 5 years.I was put on insulin the day I was diagnosed. Problem is all of my diabetes medications continue to make me gain weight. While I definitely need to LOSE WEIGHT and my BMI makes me obese I also know that my BMI is low for BS. I'm very hopeful that I see some significant changes with my diabetes after the surgery. I also don't want to end up weighing 95 pounds which my doctor assures me won't happen. Just wanted to see if anyone has a similiar story and how are you now?

I was a BMI of 41 and a diabetic before surgery. I'm 5 weeks post op, and am diabetes free. It's incredible. The sleeve is one of the best things to ever happen to me. Good luck on your journey!

My BMI was 37 before surgery and my diabetes was pretty out of control with blood sugars ranging from 300-450. I am two weeks out and the highest blood sugar I have had has been 133. I'm sure my sugar levels will keep going down as the weight comes off as well. This surgery has been amazing to say the least! :)

That sounds like my numbers. Tired of all of the insulin and feeling tired all the time! I know I will have some side effects but has to be better. Thanks for your story. Hey by the way how do you add the ticker on your profile. Thanks

Go to tickerfactory.com and choose what you want yours to look like and enter in all your information like weight and BMI. After that it will show you a code that you copy and paste into the signature of your profile. I know how you feel about being tired all the time. Even though I've only lost 15lbs since surgery, my energy level is so much more now. This surgery is definately a great investment in your health!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
