Hi there,

My name is LaQuita and I live in the DFW area I am looking for some suggestions for a surgeon. I have not seen anyone yet and would like to hear your feedback please.

Here's my story:

I have had 2 lap bands in the last 2 years, Both had to be removed b/c of skippage (prolapsed) one was b/c I got food posioning and t he 2nd was b/c I got a bad case of the flu. The throwing up is what caused both of these to prolapse. Not anything I could do about either situation! This is one reason I would not suggest a laband to anyone, Secondly, you still have to pay for fills.

Two years ago I origionally wanted the sleeve, but it was too new and our current insurance (United Health Care) would not approve it. Now we have BCBS/Tennessee (yes even though we live in Texas) :) I am praying that I won't have to re-do all the 6 months of evals and seminars since I have had the lap-band done before. I have a consult on Wednesday with True Results in Hurst, Tx. But am open to ANY suggestions inone in the area has for places to go or not go!

Looking forward to getting to be a part of this 'group'

Blessings to you all

LaQuita

I am using Dr. Scott Stowers in Decatur, TX. I have BCBS of Minn. and am having to complete the 6 month evaluation. They have been great about taking care of everything for me. A friend of mine used them and have had good success with their sleeve. I have not had mine yet, but hope to by the end of May.

I have had one lapband, currently diagnosed with a slip. I was self pay for the band (insurance excluded WLS), but now have bariatric coverage with Aetna. Normally, Aetna requires a high BMI, a six month supervised weight loss plan, etc. I was approved for my revision, and I am not required to do any of that. My BMI is currently about 31. I'll be doing my revision in a month or two.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
