Did Your Shoe Size Change After?

Recommended Posts

I am still a few weeks pre-op but I'd like to hear if your shoe size changed at all after surgery? If so how long did it take?

In the past 8-9 months I packed on another 60-70 lbs (yikes). This was on top of already being morbidly obese. Anyway, my shoe size went up, most likely due to swelling. All my life I was a 9, sometimes I could fit an 8 1/2 even. But now I am solidly a 10. I cannot fit into any of my old shoes and resorted to wearing Crocs clogs for comfort.

So has anyone else had this happen and then their shoe size went back to normal? I need hope!

Yes, my shoes fit looser now. I even bought some size seven boots. Of course, shoe manufacturers vary so it is hard to have a clue what size I would have bought before. But, most of my shoes fit better now, except for one pair which is just too big and probably needs to go away.

Hang on to your old favorites, they will probably fit great again!

My length stayed at a 10 but the width went from a Wide to a Medium. I had bought a pair of sandals for the following summer in a 10W and ended up selling them on Ebay because I couldn't walk in them.

I, as well, went from a wide to medium.

I went from a 8.5Medium to 7.5 Narrow/Medium (depending on the shoe). Took about 6 months after surgery for the final size to stabolize.

I noticed a difference on my second month. I started wearing the shoes that were uncomfortable. In fact, those are the most comfortable now and I just started my third month. I'm an 8.5 now, not a 9 anymore. I suspect I will end up being an 8. Hope this helps.

These replies DO help a lot. I was thinking that I have all these great shoes that I'll never be able to wear again. Now I know to hang onto them, so glad! I was thinking it'll probably be about 6 months post op before I can wear them again.

I had older shoes that had become too tight on my feet and I was not wearing. Now that I have been losing weight they are fitting again and feel fine. Smaller feet is good as now I can wear shoes and not have to spend a fortune on new shoes too. The cost of clothing is enough but then I had a lot of old clothes in smaller sizes too. Guess i did not throw some things away as I always thought that someday I would get back into that size......maybe one day

I went from a 9/9.5 wide to 8/8.5 regular. I still have 36 more lbs to go.

Side note: I can wear a size 9 jean now! Old size was 20

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
