Saw My Surgeon Today For My 6 Month Visit

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I just wanted to fill you guys in on what my surgeon told me during my visit. I have lost 67 pounds so far and he said that was above the curve. yay! He also told me that for me to lose the final 30+ pounds by summer (my goal) I would have to be more aggressive with my exercise. I already started zumba a few times a week and walk about 2 miles or so 5 days a week. He said to by a weight vest for the walks or hand weights. He said I was going to have to really do some serious calorie burn daily to make that goal. He said he would be happy if I reached 135 by Thanksgiving. Whatever. I told him I was tired of people acting like my goals are too aggressive and I was gonna do it by summer. He said he accepted my challenge and I said ITS ON NOW BUDDY. I am so stoked about proving to him and everyone else that just because my Honeymoon is over doesnt mean I cant acheive my goals on my time line! So, I will be getting jiggy wid it from here on out. I see my family in June who have not seen me and I want to be able to say I reached my goal.

Constipation issue--- still having it and the dr. said to take colase everyday and mineral oil but to be warned that mineral oil works too well sometimes.

Vitamins- Still have to take the Vitamin D prescription once a week. It was on the low side of normal still.

caffeine-- he took me off of it for surgery and I never went back. He told me afew months ago I could have some coffee here and there but I drink Decaf now. I have trouble getting my fluids in. I only get about half of it and I want to start drinking some unsweet tea to help with that since I love it. He said it was ok and he would rather me have some caffieine than not enough fluids. BUT... caffeine is an appetite stimulant and thats why they dont want us to have it. ANy thoughts on this? I dont know what to do??

Overall, I am down 67 pounds, by bmi is 29 (overweight), down from 40 (morbidly obese) and am wearing some size 12 jeans today (down from 20)! I cant complain and I love my sleeve!

I think, scratch that, I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT on YOUR time schedule!!! For it to happen you need to lose about 2-3 pounds a week? With that goal in mind, as hard as your working on this, it is possible. Just keep reminding yourself how bad you want it and how good/great it's going to feel when you do get there. I have a picture/saying under the glass on my desk at work that says: NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS SKINNY IS GOING TO FEEL so I see that all day every day as a constant reminder. I know how you feel about wanting to get to goal "before" vacation/seeing your family, we have our vacation scheduled for October going to Key West FL, well that will be 1 month before my 1 year anniversary and I have made it my goal to lose all my weight before we go. I want to wear shorts and bikini tops and not worry about grossing people out. lol Anyway, call me anytime you need any extra encouragement or on melt-down days.

Forensikchick:

I drink a cup of coffee every morning and I don't find it an appetite increaser. I also like the Diet Lipton Green Tea with Citrus, Good Earth Sleepy Time Tea, and the Good Earth Gingerbread Tea. Sometimes I have just plain hot Water with a little sugar free caramel Syrup.

I'm gonna be increasing my exercise to lose the last four pounds I have to go to goal. I plan to add Zumba and a spinning class.

Hey Forensikchic: I, too, drink coffee--numerous cups a day--and do not find it stimulates my appetite. But it may be one of those things that's individual and might be enough of a possibility that your surgeon just has a thing about it.

Sounds like you're doing great--congratulations on your success so far, and I have absolutely no doubt that you'll hit your goals on your timeline! Keep rocking that sleeve!!!

I drink coffee every now and then and find that it suppresses my appetite. So the only reason I avoid it is to avoid the calories -- cream and sugar or a Starbuck's fancy coffee can really add up!

My surgeon told me the honeymoon was over at 3 months. He said I needed to work really hard to get to goal. I didnt really start a hardcore exercise program until about two weeks ago. I was just walking a couple of miles a few times a week and I thought i was doing good. Now I am doing zumba three times a week AND walking at least two miles 5 days a week too. I bought a weighted vest like he said and I walk using it. I also bought a fitbit to help me know how many calories I am burning. I think when you get down to 30 pounds left to lose, the hard work has to come in or goal will be a loooong time coming. He said I would lose for 2 years. Thats the window but the honeymoon is where the weight just comes off with little or no exercise.

Forensikchic, I just want to congratulate you on how great you are doing. I have no doubt you will achieve your goal of losing the rest of the weight by summer. Once again, we are on a simmilar path. I hope to get to my goal at the end of summer or so as well. I think that, especially since you are increasing your exercise, you should be able to get there no problem. I love that you are feeling well both physically and mentally. That's just as important to get to our goals. Looking forward to continuing to read about your progress!!!! Go to it sista! :-)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
