What About These Blood Thinners?

Recommended Posts

Exactly, Mrs.Riene. But this surgery over any other? Or is this just the big procedure that obese people are currently having?

Also, Lovenox is a pork product, which I learned after the fact. No one asked me if I had an issue with pork products. I do intentionally avoid them in my thyroid meds (using a generic Synthroid over the Armour thyroid, which is a pork product).

I know there are people of certain religions who would not want Lovenox. I hope they are being informed.

Maybe it only occurs less than 1% of the time because most doctors prescribe blood thinner as a routine part of the healing process. If this is the case then I definitely will be taking my injections when I have my surgery.

Thanks Amanda for asking the question and others for all of the dialog.

I was given a binder with the required meds needed after surgery. It was also stressed at the Support Grp meeting that these would be needed without question when I am home after the surgery.

I have just gone on the website to check the cost of the Lovenox. A huge difference between mail order, generic and brand. I'm glad that this was brought up because this would not have been a question I would have asked being that it is on the 'required' list!

BTW, I have had a plate and 12 screws place for my ankle when it was broken and was placed on Plavix. Why can't that be an option as well. Just saying...

Thanks for bringing up the question. That is why I love this site. It's important to be informed. I know I'm already nervous about this life changing decision. I don't want to have to deal with the little things the closer I am to getting it done.

I normally overthink everything and normally I would have asked more questions. This surgery was such a big deal for me that I decided to go with the flow rather than doing a whole lot of research ahead of time. I didn't shop around for Vitamins or anything, just bought the suggested brand from the surgeon's office, etc. I even stopped reading this forum as much right before the surgery.

I think if I had given much more thought to everything, it would have stressed me out. I almost left during pre-op as it was! They had to drug me to calm me down. lol And look, everything is fine. Good luck!

I'm glad to hear all is well now Amanda. I don't know if you still need items, but a website was given for Vitamins in the mtg on Tues. One of the attendees indicated low costs on the items needed. As I'm here really early on, I'm not sure exactly what is needed. Try it and see if it will help you or anyone for that matter.

Thanks! I will check it out. I may just go back to the liquid Vitamins that I was taking before surgery. My chewables make me feel so ill, I am experimenting with ways to take them without the queasiness.

I bought a lot of stuff that I didn't really like too much, in an effort to be prepared. Looking back, I would have bought less. I am finally running out of some of this stuff. Hooray!

Has anyone who has had surgery in Mexico been put on blood thinners.....just want to know why they don't if all the doctors in the US are??? Might be a good question to ask if you are having surgery in Mexico or out of the US.

I am 1 month post op and I take my last lovenox injection tonight. I was put on this med due to me having a history of pulmonary embolism (blood clot in my lungs) and the recommendation for pts like me is to take the injections 2x a day for 4wks.

hope that helps

also some people who do not move after surgery and are seditary are prone to getting blood clots. the cost for me was 12 for a month supply. the people who are having to pay over $$$ may not have insurance or paid cash for the surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
