Seriously About To Give Up Food Entirely!

Recommended Posts

Everything I eat is uncomfortable, everything gives me heartburn even after taking my pepcid, nothing sits right. I'm seriously done trying to eat. I can't even stand liquids at this point! There's no way I'm getting them in, I know I'm seriously dehydrated because I barely urinate and when I do it's super super dark, and I really don't want to be put back in the hospital for dehydration! I'm not regretting my sleeve but I thought for sure by now it would be easier.

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

You might try to ask your Dr. for a prescription for Dexilant for your heartburn. My surgeon prescribed this and I haven't had one moment of heartburn and I was sleeved on 1/27/12.

Part of the reason you're probably having trouble with so many foods IS the dehydration. You may need to go get rehydrated if its that bad. I'd nip it in the bud before you end up admitted - a trip to the ER or to your doctor's office might be called for here - they can give you IV fluids and send you on your way with a better start!

Have you asked to switch heartburn meds? I know that different ones work differently and it is worth trying new ones to solve this! I take proselic and have yet to suffer from significant heartburn. Early on, Water was the worst, for whatever reason herbal tea went down much better. i hope you get to feeling better soon..

Agree with Circa here, dehydration will make us feel pretty darn awful. Please go to the ER, get some IV and I'm willing to bet you will begin to feel a lot better quickly. Dehydration is not something to mess with. Get well soon!!

I agree with all of the above! Also, as CowgirlJane suggested, switching antiacid can really help. I'm on prilosec and once on a trip switched to zantac (which works differently) and it was a huge negative difference. Check with your MD about switching. Also, get that sipping in! It's really hard in the begining, but you can do it!!!!! One hour at a time. Try popsicles, herbal teas, broths, hot, cold etc. Once sip at a time. Also, as others have said, if you need an IV, do it! You will start to feel better with fluids! Even now this far out, when I am having a bit of a crappy day, it's usually because I am low on fluids... and I get to sipping! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! Seding good thoughts your way!

Thanks ladies! I called my surgeon and they didn't seem too concerned so maybe I'm overthinking things... Either way I know I'm severely dehydrated so I'm gonna marry my 1 liter of aquafina and make it my goal to finish it by dinner time, and then refill it and finish it before bedtime.

Leggoooooo!!!

Water for me was killer in the beginning... I had to try a few drinks before I settled on Isopure Clear Protein Drinks and Propel and Vitamin waters. (Sugar free of course).

Any foods that contained Milk or citrus killed my sleeve. (Milk has lactic acid). Canned chicken was my friend! Now I can eat bits of everything but breads and potatoes (probably should not eat those anyway! )

It works, but if it were easy everyone would do it...lol! :biggrin5: I had my surgery 8/4/11 and have lost 85 pounds as of today. I have 42 left to go!

I wish you a speedy recovery! Please keep us updated!

This is a great time for some gatorade. For me, it went down alot easier than just plain Water. I diluted it half and half. I was able to drink the whole bottle that was 32oz along with 32oz of H2O. ;)

I did the Isopure clear drinks too. Great way to get fluids and Protein in one. I personally could do them for more than two weeks, They are seriously sweet.

OK so it's dinner time and I've only finished about 1/2 of my 1 liter, but I got a little side tracked. I had some cherry Jello for lunch and I didn't pay attention to the label - it wasn't sugar free and my body doesn't handle sugar like that well... It never has. When I eat sugar like that my blood sugar spikes and then I get super duper sleepy, so I slept from about 1-5. Now I'm drinking an Atkins vanilla shake for dinner and trying to come out of this sugary haze.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
