Dr. Kelly Drama, Coordinators, Etc.

Recommended Posts

I spoke with Dr. Kelly today, after hearing about the news and to be honest I was rather put off. I kind of ridiculed Donna the other day about making a judgement on personality and now I take that back!

He was more than rude. I have dealt with many egotistical doctors, my father worked at UCSF with some of them, but this was bad. I had inquired about whether the accommodations I had with Trish would still be valid (I was going to arrive a day early) and he flat out said he didn't care.

It was just a little mean to me I guess. I have yet to decide what I want to do. :/

@ Circa... Not sure what you are leading towards Circa... but i can tell you that with most insurance companies in the states, there is many more than "1" patient adovcate, in fact it's usually a team of people... and truth be told, having a good attorney is really what you want in case something goes wrong. An attorney that can get beyond the "you can't sue us" clause...

But that is not the point... the point is that there is a sudden change in direction with no real explanation of what happened - from either side. it's scheduling a surgery that I wasn't all that happy about doing in the first place.. All i needed was an excuse not to do it, and lo and behold this happens.. while I care about what happens with other folks.. bottom line, my arse is up there on the table. I want a skilled physician and treats me like "I was one of his own".. it's the exact same expectation that i'd have from a surgeon here in Georgia..

This is why you should speak to the doctor. Instead of getting information from 3rd and 4th and even 5th parties, or perhaps people that aren't all that happy about a loss in income.

Oh boy....like the rest of you I am in the same boat. when I started inquiring about a week and a half ago after many, many hours of research; I made the inquiry to Trish, filled out my health questionaire, and was settled on a date (April 23rd). the only thing left to do was send in a deposit. Well, then all this drama started! I have had email correspondence with Dr. Kelly ( prior to Trish leaving) and talked on the phone to Trish. she let me know that she was no longer booking for Dr. Kelly and did not bad mouth ( she said she didn't want to be unethical) but she felt is was a necessary move. Hmmmm.. She also has received rave reviews about her care and genuine concern for Dr. Kelly's patients. Now...what to do? I don't know except I have done a bit more research and dr. Ponce de leon also has good credentials and many satisfied patients. I have already booked my tickets for San Diego for April 22nd ( thank goodness it's through reward mileage...so I can get a refund of my miles back into my account) but I have to be just as certain with the decision to go with this Dr. as I was about Dr. Kelly. I have yet to decide if I will go directly through Dr. Kelly or go with a different surgeon. All I know is, just do your due diligence, research, ask questions, and follow your gut..( no pun intended!! :) That's my plan!

SOO glad I researched everything on these sites because I got diet sheets and that was the exstent of information I got. To top off my BAD experience they forgot about me yea FORGOT ! I have to agree, but not just for Dr Kelly. Its scary being in a foreign country and alone. I have had a totally different experience because Trish has been with us every step of the way. In fact she is bringing someone over to the Lucerna this morning to give us pedicures. I had also met another patient online who had her surgery the same day at INT and we have talked everyday and had "dinner" together yesterday. Both my sister and I, and my friend at INT, had IV issues. But I have had the same issues in the states so I cant totally blame the nurses. I have been lucky, I have had the "best case senario" so far. I just hope it continues. BTW, my sister describes her first day as hell, constant dry heaving but 100% better the second day.

I think that after reading long enough you will find many things that people like about Dr Kelly, Dr Ponce, Dr Almanza, Dr Garcia and the list goes on. I think that you need to feel comfortable with your choice and that is only a decision that you, yourself, can make. I know that I initially was going to go with Dr Kelly but then change my mind to Dr Almanza and finally changed again and settled on Dr Garcia. I probably would have had a good experience with any of them but I made the decision to go with Dr Garcia. I am not sorry about my choice and very happy. I know that others on here also have nothing to say about their doctors but good reviews.

I wish you all the luck on your choice of your surgeon and all the best on your surgery and your new journey.

I certainly would not just base my surgeon decision on the cost. I know that cost is a major concern for all of us that went to Mexico but that should be far not be the only deciding factor. I know that you will consider all different things before making your choice.

Don't want to go too deep in this as their are many on here that seem to already have a deep opinion on this specific issue. Just wanted to state I had my surgery with Dr. Kelly and I had a fantastic experience. He was a wonderful caring doctor. Make your own informed decisions and do your research. Coordinators are only there to help assist you in making arrangements. Only if interested, I personally went through successfullyslimmer.com with my coordinator being Chrisit Beardon. She was fabulous at getting the information I needed and was quick to respond not only to email, but I even had a direct phone line to her to. We still share emails monthly with my measurement details. Take your time, this site is to help you make a better informed decision not to sway you in either directions. Only you know what is right for you.

I have to say, that Anaid.AND Dr Kelly have been wonderful! They have answered ALL of my questions, and there have been many! I had a lengthy conversation, and I asked him every question under the sun, and he was more than happy to answer all if them. I even asked him if he had to have this surgery, who would he go to. He loved it! His answer was the only other Dr I had even looked at. Trish can't recommend him anymore because she doesn't work for him any more, pretty simple!

Dr Joya in Puerto Vallerta. He said that he is an excellent surgeon, and that they are very good friends.

Go with dr Almanza if price is an issue ? The service I got I may as well have been in a strip mall :( infact you would probably be better off there at least you will have people to talk to and there for support and information

I also researched into dr joya and wish I'd have gone with him or almanza

But ultimately it's your choice !

Good luck with your choice and I wish you all the best :)

I didn't get to read through all of these posts, but can anyone please tell me why Trish no longer works for Dr. Kelly? My friend has been looking into having her sleeve done with him for a while now and called over there today and found out that Trish is no longer there...does anyone know why???

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
