Can you say how much?

Recommended Posts

I'm new here and considering the Lap band. I really need to do something about my weight. I have tried so many diets and failed at them. I have two little babies(7months and 20 months) and would love to have more some day. But I had gestational diabetes with both of them. Also diabetes run in my family. So I think this is a great option for me and my family.

But anyways. My question is: Can I tell my doctor what I want my end weight to be? I'm currently 249lbs and would like to be no less than 150lbs but would be just fine with 165lbs. This would still leave me "overweight" according to the BMI calculators. But honestly I was happy and felt healthy at that weight. And I'm also bigger boned too.

It's your band. It's your body. Go for what you want. The doctor may give you a goal number (something like 60% of your excess weight). When he told me his number, I said that's not good enough. I want an additional 20 lbs off. And I will do it, too.

Its really nobody's business with your own but you can play it either way - set it with him or just be quietly determined to meet your own goals and nobody else's.

You can pretty much decide where you want to be. If you get to the lowest you want to be, just go in and get a little unfill and eat a little bit more. :(

My doc set a very conservative goal of 80# (would have been higher if I had the RnY bypass, but he admitted I'd lose 10#-20# less over longer period, with LapBand) for me, but I am hoping to lose at least 10# more than his goal. We'll see how my body decides - it might have the final say!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
