The medicine isnt whats expensive lol its the doctor. I was taking Naproxen, but I ended up having an allergic reaction to it. Sometimes my knees arent too bad, like shopping! They dont bother me too much shopping, but I make sure I take breaks and dont do too much at once. I have an exercise bike we actually bought for my knees. The problem can only be solved through weight loss and toned weight loss can only be obtained through exercise, so its a bit of a pickle. My knees are not built like everyone else's. I have all my cartlidge and muscles like healthy knees, but my are ULTRA flexible my legs look like this when I stand ( (

It bends inward due to super flexibility (im like that all over my body). So when I walk or do the bike the reflex motion causes my knees to "super bend" and basically disconnect so when they pop back on the recoil it causes the soreness and pain and also weakens them (makes them like Jell-O) So I cant really walk, my knees slip out from under me so to speak. Maybe I can exercise in the ocean once I move to Corpus, that doesnt seem to make my knees pop out like walking and stuff like that does. I like to exercise, before my knees got so bad (due to my weight) I was walking about 4 miles a day (yes a day) and doing strength exercises, Im really not outta shape too too much, I dont have to take a breather too often just my knees due..

Hey Jodie...yeah, you gotta take control of your life. I gotta say that I'm incensed at the fact your own mother threw out your medication because she thought you didn't need them....WTF???? Sorry, that truly bothers me. I don't know what it is like in the US...but don't you have some Centres that you can go to and get some assistance/help (medical or otherwise?)....

Anyways....on a more positive note...you said that you were coming up to your one year anniversary and you were upset about "only" losing 30 lbs. I want to share this with you: my post op care person...she was one of the first to be banded in Canada....and has been banded now for 5 yrs. During her first year, she only lost 25 lbs. BUT, in her second year of banding she lost just over 100. She got to her goal weight and has been successfully maintaining now for over 3 yrs. So....don't lose hope....the game ain't over!!!!

Be strong....you WILL get there and meet your goals (I don't just mean weight goals).

Take care.....

Jodi it is really great to see you with this positive attitude. You will succeed. Exercise is movement so if you sit in a chair and puch your arms out in front of you and above your head that is cadio and strength training. Lie on your back and kick your legs, do the bicycle with your legs, anything to build up a sweat. You have to raise your heart rate to get the cardio going. This is a great hand pedler you can use with your hands or feet while sitting in a chair. pedalexer.gif Avon use to sell them. If you don't have one, just use your hands and make the pedling motion and you can raise your heart rate.

Hey Jodi...just saw your posts and wanted to chime in.

I'm not sure if someone else recommended this already, but you know what's a great source of low to no impact aerobic exercise? DANCING! If you can, lock yourself in your room, turn your radio or CD player on, and just dance like a dancing fool for 20-30 min a day. It's fun, it gets your heart rate up, and it doesn't cost anything!

Move everything you can, especially your arms and hips. Heck, you don't even need to move your feet much if you don't want...just as long as you get your hips and arms moving, you'll see benefit! Plus, dancing helps to make you happy...have you ever seen a frowning dancing person? :)

I'm sorry you've been so frustrated, but you sound like you're on your way and determined to achieve your goal. Good luck, and stick with it! Your success so far is fantastic...you're doing great!

Hiya Jodie, I have to pipe in my two cents worth. I have to say something that may not make everyone happy....You MUST get help for depression, at this point I believe it may be an issue that is second to your weight loss. Depression can be a debilitating illness and needs to be treated as such. As a Psych major I have spent countless hours working at the treatment center on campus and we offer our services for free. I can almost bet it will be the same for you. Your mom should never have thrown away your medicine, try to always contact your doctor before you make any changes (once it is under your control of course!). I of course want you to lose weight so you can be happy but PLEASE promise that you will seek counseling immediately! School may seem like a great escape but sometimes there are a lot of stressors there as well so you need to have a support group! The school can certainly get you in touch with free counseling services if they do not offer it (Corpus Christi has several free medical and psychological services for you to use). Pleae don't see this as preaching, I just worry about your mental well being (it's my job :) ) and I do not EVER want you to feel as if you are out of options.

Okay...I will stop ranting hon! I just know that you are a beautiful girl with a bright future and I know you will do well!

Sincerely, Patti

What in the world would we ever do without each other?? If you ain't been there, you just don't know the agony this fat thing can be. Being honest to ourselves is key isn't it? I have been not posting or rading for awhile. I have been struggling too. Got out my books to journal too.

god bless you all and hang in Jodie, The 18th is closer than you think. Look for some positive materials at your local library, rent them in tape form and take a slow walk around a few blocks and try not to be around your negative enviounment anymore than you have to be. I think admitting we are in a funk is the first step out of the funk!!

Jodie,

I forgot to mention, I don't have a great deal of money either, however I dicided to go to my local ymca and learn to be a aquacise instructor. I get my membership free. Pay is only $7. a class and I only do about 2 a week for pay. Maybe you could ask if you could do volunteer work at your Y and they might give you a membership?? Just a thought.

Lol these ideas are great, but most of them you have to live somewhere bigger than where I live, When I move I will have the beach and a pool and a fitness center for free, but right now I live in the middle of NO WHERE lol, We have Wal*Mart.....and a few grocery stores and like 5 dollar stores, thats my town, we have to go an hour away JUST to go to a specialist, we dont have a YMCA (as a matter of fact I had no idea those were still around because Ive only heard of the OLD song and on Threes Company). We dont have fancy diet and health food stores or restaurants, as a matter of fact its a 10-15 minute drive to the Wal*Mart parking lot (20 to my school) and thats without much traffic going 75 mph the whole way lol. We have conveniant stores that dont even sell gourmet coffee, have delis or pizza or subways whatever in them they just sell black coffee and junk food lol. There's not much here, so you all can imagine what kind of city shock Im gonna be in in 12 days lol! Ive never had a Dunkin Donut or a Krispy Kreme Ive never been to a macaroni Grill or Wienerschnitzel and MY FIRST TIME TO EAT AT WENDYS WAS LIKE A MONTH AGO! We have Mcdonalds DQ and Sonic (DQ only because we are in TEXAS) lol! So maybe you all understand my exercise predictament, lol there are no "blocks" where I live, I have NO IDEA WHAT A BLOCK IS, I went to Ft. Worth and they gave me directions how to get to the convention center and used "blocks" as a form of measurement, I ended up at an ice cream parlor! I live in the middle of the woods my closest neighbor is half a mile down the road, which is only big enough for 1 car to fit through which is a definate improvement (in my opinion) from our old trailor that was in the middle of my grandfather's pasture full of cows!LOL! I just think its sooooo funny that I have never had these resources and many more, Im laughing right now because I know that in 12 days Im gonna be like "Im not leaving the dorms, Ill get lost..." lol But Im excited to see what a YMCA looks like, and to know what a block is and to try new kinds of health food and stuff, I think itll be a great adventure, but till then I sit at my house and make the occassional trip to Wal*Mart (thats my exercise half the time) but not this weekend its TAX FREE, I would RATHER the After Thanksgiving Sale than this, atleast there's not 9 million little kids running around the store! Did I mention I dont like kids.....lol Have a great day, thanks for the support guys I think Im getting on track, although a trip to Wal*Mart almost ruined it last night, I swore I heard some Doritos calling my name!:):P

Jodi,

When you move out you will do better. You can cook and do your own thing. Nobody to watch or make fun of you. The ones that don't support you and make fun of you need help. But the picture is beautiful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Your inner self comes shinning thur. Be the best you ,you can be. And do this for you.Just get out on your own an Go Girl. Bset of kuck to you!

hey, jodie...'nother texas gal in a small town here, so i know what you're saying. a wal-mart, a dq, a bbq joint and a gas station, and then you're outta town. :)

about exercise: you could do chair exercises for your upper body and just leave your knees totally out of the equation. the point is to get your heart rate up and to start burning calories. who cares how you do it? if you can't afford hand weights, fill your Water bottles up and use those as weights.

would it help your knees to wear braces? it sounds like if you had something to stablize the joints it would be less stressful for you. or maybe you could customize your bike with some reminder breaks, or something. i'm thinking maybe a bar on the front and a bar on the back that when you hit it it will remind you to not go any further or you'll overextend your knees. like a bumper, or something. i don't know how possible that would be...

good luck!

hey guys, sorry I shoulda deleted this thread when it died a long time ago...TURNS OUT I wasnt counting my calories right, now Im doing great and losing weight WITHOUT INTENTIONAL EXERCISE. When I say without intentional exercise I mean I only do what I have to do, walk to class, to my car, shopping, stuff that you just do and dont call it exercise but you are still burning calories. Its working out great, but I gotta get a lil stricter Ive kinda gone nuts lately with cravings (its a woman thing) but its all better now. g2g gotta goto class in the morning

There's a show on TV called Sit and BE Fit. Exercise without standing.... There are also exercise routines for upper body for those with knee and other leg problems. Might be worth adding that to your routine until your weight drops enough to stress your knees less.....

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
