How's everyone doing this morning? I'm less than 24 hours away from surgery! I don't know if today's going to go by super slow or super fast. How did you spend your last day before surgery?

Hey everyone! I had my sleeve surgery on 3/9/12. 12 days post op I feel pretty good! last night Las the first night I rolled onto my stomach and had no pain!! I'm committed to weighing myself only once a week, as I don't want to be ruled by the scale this early on. I will say however, that if nothing else, I FEEL the inches lost. I also just "feel" lighter! I have a lot of energy and feel good emotionally with my decision.

Good luck to everyone on your upcoming surgery - and well wishes for those that have had the surgery!

Good morning Monique - I think I'll spend the day getting as much laundry done as I can, and then I plan on treating myself and go to the nail place to get my nails done and a pedicure (would hate to have ugly feet on the table - hehehe). It will probably be a while before I feel up to getting out and getting my nails done again. I will pack tonight, since I already know what I'm taking with me. The hospital has Wi-Fi, so I hope to feel up to getting online Friday to update everyone.

My DH took the rest of the week off to help me, so I feel like I've got just about as much done as I can at this point.

Hi everyone! I had surgery on Monday morning and should be heading home today. Tuesday was tough, I didn't feel very good but today I feel so much better. I'm keeping down 4oz of liquid every hour now. They brought me yogurt which I might try but am very afraid it will hurt. I have been up walking laps and have only had a tiny bit of pressure in my shoulder due to the gas. Feeling very fortunate and can't wait to get home to my own bed.

Hey ChaCha!

I spent my day cleaning the house top to bottom, repacking our bags, rechecking the hotel confirmation, making sure the cabinets were stocked, and pretty much anything I could think of! Good luck tomorrow! I'm so excited for you!!

Thankfully, my surgery is here in town. I can't imagine having to worry about an airline flight as well. I don't know how you ladies did it! That took a lot of courage and fortitude!

So.. I had surgery on March 10th.. I was so incredibly nervous going in (always a little scared about anesthesia). Procedure went well, woke up in PACU and my O2 sats were on the low side. Had a really hard time waking up. I was not conscious for more than an hour that first day.. I got up to use the restroom and back to sleep. Could not keep my eyes open!!! (this may have been due to the 2mg dilaudid I was given!! post op)

So on POD1, things were rough, I was in a lot of pain--not surgical mind you, but stomach. Once I started taking Omeprazole regularly, that pain went away.

So here I am POD 11 and things are going wonderfully. I am adjusting well to my new stomach and learning what I can and cannot do. It is still so hard to slow down when eating... I was so used to eating fast, it is a hard habit to break. Drinking is getting easier as I don't have to sip, I can take a real drink now. If I find I am low on fluids, I'll have a popsicle or 2 to help bring that number up.. Today I actually got about 58! Gms Protein in.. How exciting :)

Would I change anything?? On POD1 I would have cancelled sx.... But today.. I feel better, I am lighter and I am going to live longer. Dr. Westmoreland has given me the tools to change my life-it's in my hands now!!!!!

Good luck to all still waiting for their March Surgery!!! Congrats to those already sleeved and doing well :)

-19 pounds post op!!!!

Jenn

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
