Anyone Have Dyspepsia? Frequent Heartburn?

Recommended Posts

Its a possible side effect after getting the sleeve so I was wondering if anyone has this? How many percent of people have heartburn trouble?

hi kiki, i have gerd and it is sooo bad some days, it such a struggle to even eat. having read up on dyspepia, i do see some similarities to what i am experiencing. i always had indigestion but since being sleeved (nov 1/11) i can say that it has gotten a bit worse. my new tummy just refuses to rule! i take zantac 150mg twice a day to manage.

My reflux has gotten noticeably worse since being sleeved. I'm taking 150mg Zantac every morning and usually another dose in the evening. I'm hoping that it settles down once my stomach figures out that it's not there anymore.

I'm just under 4 weeks out from surgery and have been dealing with heartburn daily this week. I suffered from heartburn before surgery. My doctor started me on Prilosec OTC once a day in 2009 and it went away. I never had an issue anymore.

My surgeon talked with me about this problem likely becoming worse after surgery and spoke about people having to revise to RNY to get rid of it. I DON'T want this to happen.

I'm going to call my nurse tomorrow and tell them that the Prilosec alone is not managing it at this point. I've read on this forum about people using different combinations of PPIs to manage it. Hopefully, I can find something that works. I don't want any further surgeries, DEFINITELY not RNY.

What are the causes of the heartburn? I never had issues with heartburn that would cause me to need medication and I really wouldn't want to be going through that daily. Heartburn sucks. I also would not want to switch to the bypass making it a duodenal switch. I mean you'll lose more weight and keep more off but I don't want that. :/

Yes, I have dyspepsia,,with all the symptoms.lol I had gerd before surgery and my symptoms have worsened. I'm on nexium 40mg 2x a day along with 150mg zantac 2x a day..this is not working. I was told if this didn't work, I may want to call my gastro for further evaluation so I'll be calling tomorrow.

I've been through my share of complications,,had my regrets but I'm feeling better (aside of the heartburn/indigestion). I wouldn't say I regret the surgery now. Would love to get rid of these pesky issues but I think as I lose more weight, it will probably get better or there is something out there that I can take that will lessen my symptoms.

55lbs gone so no regrets here kiki, just have to find a happy balance! gerd was something i have had for a while - stressful work environment. it had settled down a bit but kicked up immediately after my surgery and hasn't settled yet.

wow peacequeen - sending healing vibes your way!

It took up till just here recently for mine to get better..3 1/2 mths out. Eat super slow, lay off anything that is greasy/spicy and take a prescription for it if your dr will write one up for you. I take nexium and zantac.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
