I didn't tell anyone about my surgery until the weekend before my surgery.I just didn't want to here any negative talk..especially from family..My husband and my daughter were the only ones that knew...It was my journey .

"Its not about how I look, its about how I feel" Neither being too fat nor being too skinny is healthy.

The other line is "how about you let me worry about that. I'm sure you have enough of your own personal issues that need attention" :)

I've been pretty open with everyone including people I work with regarding the surgery. It doesn't bother me, but the two people who at first who were the most unsupportive were my parents. My dad thinks I just need to go on ANOTHER diet like my sister did. My mom just talks about how the people she knew that had bypass gained their weight back.

I told my mom, first of all, not having bypass. Second of all, I'm not other people, I'm me. Third of all, if my body allowed more than 65 lbs of weightloss, I could've done it YEARS ago, but thanks to PCOS I hit 65 lbs and my body says "No, thanks, I'm gonna hold on to the rest of this fat."

yea i heard those too " you not that big man" or " just try to diet and exercise" and the worst " i heard of people that gain all the weight back after surgery" . bottom line is that the only people that understand being overweight is overweight people. my decisions for surgery was based on feeling better. not really worried about my looks.

Some people really suck at compliments huh? I totally agree with circa's response! I'm exactly like that as well and that comment is definately something that I would say.! Love it! I got to goal and surpassed it, now that people have gotten used to the "thinner" me, now I hear stuff like "your gaining weight on your butt" " are you still losing?" Gosh give it up already. . . I'm not gaining and I'm not losing. . . heavens can't people just shut up and leave me alone!

I recently moved to NY after being home (in jax, fl) for a couple years. No one had seen me after surgery until I hit the four month mark. At this point i've lost 90 lbs... all of my friends were super supportive and very surprised (they didn't and don't know about my surgery). BUT, i've had a couple of family members being like "i don't remember you being a different size". That one sucks big time. I am literally half the size I was (went from a 24 to 12) and I look the same? Thanks.

I'm not sure why people say the things they do, but at this point I just brush it off. I know I made the right decision for me and I don't regret anything. If I get to the point where I am "too skinny" in their opinions, then at least I can claim my health and happiness.

Well, I don't think anyone is trying to hurt any feelings, but only trying to lift you up. Take it for what it's worth and enjoy the fact that "You look great!" "Thank you, that's sweet." :)

I do say thank you, and I know theyre trying to be supportive because I guess maybe they think its a big jump to take Im just tired of hearing it. And Im right up there with Blackanese, Im totally there with you. My grandmom and my mom are always talking about my weight and how I need to lose.. Walking into the mall to buy clothes for my christmas present my mom had the nerve to turn around and tell me "You know, you really need to do something with your weight". Broke the news right then and there... Then it turned into "why do you need to get surgery to lose weight" and now its "you better watch how much weight you lose!" Make up your minds people! lol

Oh, cant forget the "Are you sure youre going to keep up with it after?" Well duh, dont really have a choice at that point. That would completely contradict everything Im aiming for.

Although I am getting support from places I didnt think Id get, like work! (:

I love my mother dearly, but i swear if its not one thing its another.. and as long as i keep trying to satisfy HER... I WILL NEVER SATISFY ME!

I was told that allllllll the time. I was always told why? your a lite weight, you don't need this! blah, blah, blah...obesity kills period! And it will catch up sooner or later. I was obese over a decade and just found out after losing all my weight and now having a normal BMI that I have atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). It's not about how one looks or what size one is, it's about our health, and what fat does to the body. Maybe you can tell them that!

I know how you feel!! My mom is this tiny 5 foot 98 pound woman with huge boobs and hair! I, on the other hand, am 5'6" and about 2 and a half times her weight! She always said stuff like "Your arms are so saggy, why don't you lift weights while you do your hw or watch tv?" "Why don't you just stop eating so much?", "I worked out and got fit, why can't you?" As soon as I mentioned the VSG all I have been hearing is: "You better not get smaller than me!" "I think you should stop at a 12" "You would look weird thin" "Are you sure you want to do this?"

I love my mum - but it is like never ending nagging! Geez. :/

I do say thank you, and I know theyre trying to be supportive because I guess maybe they think its a big jump to take Im just tired of hearing it. Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
