A slight problem

Recommended Posts

My friend and I who had the lapband surgery in Mexico on May 11 are experiencing the same thing. Both of us have quit losing a lot of weight. Last week, I lost 1 pound and she lost 1/2 pound. We are wondering if there is some sort of plateau after about 3 months. I had my band filled to 4.5 cc and her's is at 7 cc and we are still having this plateau. These are 10 cc bands and the doc recommends 7.5 cc. as the maximum. Does anyone have any advice?

I don't think you are plateauing. Weight loss averages 1-2 pounds a week. One week with less than average is not a plateau.

I have had months where I only lost 1 pound. At about 6 months, I held the same weight for 4 months, then it just started dropping off.

Are you following the rules - ddrinking your Water, getting in plenty of Protein etc.

It may be that your body needs a few weeks to adjust to your loss to date and then you will start losing again.

This isn't a quick fix. We didn't gain the weight overnight and shouldn't plan for it to be gone overnight. From the start, I figured it would take me 2 years. Now, I'm thinking 18 months.

Good luck and have patience. Celeste

second Road Queen's very good advice. One pound a week is really good. There will be times that you stay at the same weight for months. Your body does need time to adjust and reset it's weight. Think about what really super fast weight loss looks like on people...it's not really a good thing.

You are doing really well, be happy!

Unfortunately that early weight loss cant go on forever. Its entirely normal for it to not only slow down but to plateau out regularly and you can indeed hold the same weight for months.

I'm only losing 2 to 4lb per month now, but over time it really adds up.

Thanks for letting me know about this. I hadn't read or heard about that anywhere but I'll relax and just let it happen. Dang though, I had hoped to lose a bit more rapidly.

Thanks Celeste. I am following the rules though I have to drink more at meals than I'd like because stuff gets stuck in my esophagus and I have to wash it out. Still, if 1 pound a week is good, I'm happy.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
