Going From Band To Sleeve, How Long Did You Miss Work?

Recommended Posts

I have an appointment to schedule surgery but am wondering how long you were out of work?

With the band I only missed a couple of days.

Thanks Dana

I had the band and now I have the sleeve.... I would say recovery was about the same for me.. I did them on breaks from school but I would say just after a couple days I could do whatever... as long as its not a lot of lifting and what not. I will say though that with the lapband its just outpatient but with the sleeve they kept me in the hospital for two days. Not sure your surgeons policy.

I bounced back very quickly from the band. The sleeve was a different story. I was back to work within a week with the band. The sleeve recovery is much more involved. I took 4 weeks off and honestly could have gone back after 3 weeks but I didn't . I have read people only taking a few days or a week off and I think they are super human... (seriously I am not a wimp) LOL

There is a lot more 'relearning" and plus yout stomach was dissected and now is a different size. BUT---in the long term...there is no fills, no guesswork, no food stuck feeling....WAY WAY WAY (times 1,000) better than the band. Would go throught it all in a second. got to goal in 8 months and have been maintaining 2-3 pounds under goal since. Good Luck

I have not revised yet, but the ones that I know that did not have a lot of damage from the band, and had a good Dr. recovered quickly. If you have a lot of internal damage that the band has caused that can definitly prolong the recovery process! :-(

Thanks for the info everyone.

I will have the band removed and surgery for the sleeve on the same day.

I am hoping to not have to take off so much time from work but am just nervous I guess.

Thanks again

hi dana67,

i was revised from the band to sleeve on the same day and went back to work 9 days later, I am an RN in a busy ICU so the first day was a little tiring but i adjusted quickly, the biggest challenge was that i was still on Clear Liquids so getting enough nutrition to keep working was difficult, I had to keep sipping on my Protein juices the whole night, i wish i had taken another week off.

I took 3 weeks but really only needed one. I found the recovery to be about the same as the sleeve. I was between jobs and was waiting for my background check to be approved so I just stayed on disability until I was approvd.

Dana I was back to work 3 days after my band surgery, too. Everyone I've spoke with (and like Fluffy said) that had a revision of a band that had no band-issues said the pain was less than their original band surgery. I am going to try and have my surgery on a Thurs and be back to work on Monday. Shouldn't be an issue. I have a pretty sedintary job anyways!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
