5Grams Of Carbs Per Meal?!

Recommended Posts

I was able to progress to pureed/soft foods today and my dietician told me that she only wanted me to consume 5 grams of carbs or less per meal! How is that possible? That means absolutely nothing but meat I guess. I was so looking forward to the refried Beans :(

Btw, I tried one scrambled egg with cheese and one morning star veggie sausage pureed and it came right up. Ugh, so frustrating!

That does seem a bit low and limiting - most that have their patients on the low carb thing just use the typical 40g per day limit.

That doesn't sound like enough carbs. Some people do keep it at 30 or less but carbs are very important to body function including BRAIN function. I do payroll for 1400 people and I need some carbs or I sit around and drool all day LOL. Anyway, refried Beans are good (complex) carbs! Don't limit yourself from complex carbs. Yes, stay away from sugary drinks, cakes, pies, candy, etc., but veges, beans, nuts, legumes, are all good sources of complex carbs that your body needs. Enjoy those refried beans, to me, they were a God send! Congrats on your decision too by the way....I love my sleeve!

I low-carbed my way to goal and beyond but I didn't start counting until I was eating solid food. I think Beans and dairy are good for you at this stage, but that's just my opinion.

Scrambled eggs are still difficult for me to eat a year out. Try soft-boiled or sunny-side up.

At first I followed the low carb thing but it wasn't right for me. I am a yr out and have lost 152 lbs. 11 lbs from my goal of 140 and I eat around 130 grm a day. I eat whole grainsl veggies, potatoes, and the occasional sweet. Nothing wrong with it. I find when I limit carbs I'm low on energy and cranky.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
