2 Weeks Post Op And The Dreaded Stall!

Recommended Posts

Hi all! Just wanted to check in. Yesterday was my 2 week post op date. I am down 14.6lbs! Yay me! However, I have hit the dreaded stall. I have not dropped a pound in about 5 or 6 days. I did take my measurements and am happy to report that I am losing inches though! Lost about 2.5 inches on my waist alone. So I am taking my little successes as they come.

Biggest problem I seem to be having is the bowel movements. :( Very uncomfortable. Nothing is working. I have been using a stool softener and milk of magnesia to get things moving...still nothing. I went to buy Metamucil today so we shall see. I also do get pretty wiped out by the end of the day too.

Other than that I am doing my best to try and get all of my fluids down as well as the Protein. It is a strange thing to have to remind myself to eat. I no longer know what it feels like to be hungry or stuffed like a turkey. It's pretty amazing. I am also back to walking 3 miles, 5 x's a week. I have to admit it definitely helps to fill the time that I used to dedicate to food! :)

Congrats! Yes it is painful to not see the pounds decreasing. But it is good to see the inches disappearing. I keep reading that this stall is to be expected, but fear that I am the exception to the rule. Again this would be another failure for me. I know that I'm catastrophizing. Can't help it though. ;) This too will pass! LOL

I hit a stall last week (4 to 5 weeks post-op) and this week I am losing again. I am not doing anything different- in fact, I may actually be eating a bit more. My surgeon said this is completely natural and expected and is the body healing itself. Over a week without the scale changing is very frustrating though, especially at this stage.

I am right there with you! Tomorrow will be two full weeks for me post op. I have not lost a lb since last Sunday. I know stalls are to be expected but certainly didn't expect it this fast. I too am working on getting all my liquids and Protein. I know it will pass but it's a bit discouraging when I don't see it on the scale. I haven't ever measured myself, but I can tell I am shrinking. I received my first compliment at work yesterday. :)

Keep up the hard work. We will get by this!! :)

Thanks Vance! I am down 2 oz today lol! Yay me!

You know that old fear is in the back of my mind...I had surgery and removed my stomach to lose 15lbs and that's it!? Well, rationally I know I have plenty of time ahead of me to lose this weight. But I wanted to be at my goal weight yesterday!

Guess I better learn to be patient! :)

have to revisit this to ask how its going now? I'm in a stall and wodnering how long its going to last! I even gained a bit, but I also factor in the fact that I switched to soft diet AND didn't poop for a week, so a girls gotta gain some weight from that alone. I'm back down to what i was a week ago now, so I'm hoping the scale will start to descend again....of course AF should hit later this week...booo...that'll probably be another hit to the scale.

Hi there! Well, not much action on the scale for me either. I am still the same weight. I was constipated for a while until I figured out that milk goes right through me now :(

I did go out and purchase some chewable Fiber tablets. It seems to help and yes I would agree that no BM means no weight loss :(

I walk a lot and just started weight training (light) today. I did read on here that if you are exercising your loss may be slow because the muscle is replacing the fat. But I will take the chance because I would like to try and avoid the saggy skin as much as possible. So I look at it as a blessing in a way. A slower weight loss = less saggy skin. These are the things I tell myself to stay motivated ;)

Hang in there LoserMama we are in this together! :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
