I tried either Lunesta or Ambien (can't remember which) but these are designed to help you GET to sleep not MAKE you sleep. Once you've passed the two hour mark after going to bed they have little effect. I also take meletonin but I too get wild crazy dreams. I've tried Xanax too and it simply makes me feel drunk and I seem more at ease in bed but sleep doesn't come till typically the wee hours.

I swim 1.7 miles 5 days a week, I am typically sleepy once I hit the hay and on the few nights I try I can't read for very long as my eyes feel heavy.

It is also exacerbated by the fact I have to drink so much Water to avoid kidney stones, I have to get up to urninate 1, 2 or 3 times a night. Flow is strong and clear so I don't think it is due to any urilogical issues, just the amount of Water I drink.

I get real fidgity and get achy in pressure points in my hips and back even on a memory foam mattress - I've lost so much padding witt he weight loss. I HAD been geting cold and have piled on the blankets, added a heated mattress pad and started wearing PJ's and socks. This makes me MORE uncomfortable in bed as the PJ's and socks make me get balled up in the sheets and blankets.

It's really becoming an issue and affecting my daytime performance.

I had a problem a couple of nights with insomnia. But I found this natural supplement and I swear by it. The doctor said it was fine for me but of course check with your doctor. I like it because there are no side effects.

It's called Lights Out made by ROEX. You can order it online. I take one every night and sleep like a baby. Good luck!

I just started taking 5-HTP which is also supposed to help with mood. I'll report how it works, it may take a few weeks to kick in, most natural suppliments work very slowly.

Has anyone tried Tylenol pm? That seems to be the only thing that helps me. Other than that I'm up and if I do fall asleep I do not feel rested when I wake.

I've been an insomniac since my 20's. I was sleeved on 4/29/15 and have been going great. In the last 2 day I have found that my insomnia has flared with force in the last 2 days. It usually comes on slow and if not dealt with quickly gets bad fast. So with all the stress i'm under this isn't surprising except for sudden severity of it, I am starting several "fixes" that have worked for me over the years hoping to catch it fast. Also the insomnia made me think of the massive change in my chemical make up and that others might be new to this condition. I'm also glad that my thoughts lead me here to find others to confirmation that it is a common problem.

Over the span of my life I have found what helps me and would like to share my progress and see if my methods will work this time, also to see if anyone has any success with other methds or if this just has to run it's course like a virus. So the way I treat my insomnia is to start a routine, not really strict but really structured with 3 to 5 things. This incudes a start time and an order to create a trigger.

Most of us have a normal routine that is our pattern/trigger to tell our system it is time to sleep. To create a more powerful trigger to signal sleep setting up a defined routine with....well that is getting deep and you can do your own research. So I try for the first few times is counting to ten over and over again, counting higher will allow the circling thoughts to creep in. That worked the first night but took too long on the second and now i'm up too early. So next phase is to use Ambien or Restoril for 2 weeks along with a structured routine. I will begin this tonight with Ambien (it is on my ok to take list, check with your doctor to see what is for you). I limit the use to two weeks then try to keep the pattern and stop the med. I'm so hoping this works, there are several good web sites with advise about relaxation methods. One of my triggers is a warm bath but I will add candles for aroma therapy and reading a couple of pages of a book and now I am using the internet to put on a movie as very low audible and turn out the lights. So the fight for sleep begins! I'm always up for a challenge (or at least I wish I was, i'm in a fake ti till ya make it personality trait incorporation).

I hope we all come out the other side soon. I hate this condition, esp the bags under my eyes!

Couldn’t sleep the last 2 nights but I also have Covid at the moment. Since I’m vaccinated it was only like a cold but it’s clearing up now, but I wasn’t sure if the insomnia is due to VSG or Covid or something else. I am 4 weeks post op tomorrow and I am hoping this is a sign of a Jumpstart to my metabolism since I’ve stalled after the 1st week loss of 13.5 lbs. Perhaps it’s a sign I need to be more active during the day. I also just started eating solid foods last Friday so that could be it. Covid insomnia is also a “thing” so only time will tell. I’m tired tho. 🥱

Be careful with long term use of anything containing the sleep ingredient in Tylenol PM (diphenhydramine)…it can mess with your neurotransmitters and makes some people depressed. There’s also some evidence it raises your risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s.

This just hit me the past two days - sleeved 12/22/2021. I woke up 2 days ago at 3 AM and that was it I was done sleeping. I had slept 5 hours and I was energized. Then I couldn’t fall asleep last night until 3 AM which meant I was up 24 hours. My husband even asked if I drank coffee because that’s how much energy I had - for 24 hours straight! Nope just Water. So I woke up at 8 AM that put me at 5 hours sleep again. I was so full of energy I did 4 loads of laundry, dishes, mopped the floors, and I was remodeling and loaning my Master suite - bedroom, laundry room and bathroom, before surgery - I actually finished painting my bedroom today and walked over 3 miles! So here it is 10:30 PM im wide awake while everyone else sleeps. This is so weird I’ve always needed 10-12 hours of solid sleep since the day I was born not the past two nights! Crazy

Okay the insomnia is so bad, I take 6 pills to go to sleep including narcotics all prescribed by my dr. and still cannot sleep, I wake up so much at night and have to take 6 more pills in the middle of the night to get back to sleep. The medicine I take could knock out a horse, but not me. I take melatonin also. I slept great before the surgery with my meds. And I only took 4 meds at that time on a Keto diet. I take a total of 12 meds at night just to sleep. And I am still waking up every hour. Does anyone have advice or good news that this is only temporary. I was sleeved 29 days ago.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
