4 Days Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery... Help!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I am new to this site, but I just wanted to get some thoughts on post op recoveries. I had the sleeve done on December 20th, and was in the hospital for 3 days. I had little problems getting up and moving about, but each time they gave me meds, I felt so nauseated and vomited them back up (even when they gave me Zofran). I am home now, and am barely tolerating liquids and the gas pain is horrendous. I keep asking myself why I did this - but I know I did this for my own health and for my children. It's so hard right now to see beyond what I am feeling, but someone please tell me it gets better!

Oh yeah. It gets much better. My stomach growled and rumbled from the time I was being wheeled from the recovery room until two weeks after my surgery. It would growl so loud that I couldn’t sleep because it wouldn’t stop. I tried some Gas-x strips that dissolve in your mouth. That helped. I also found the more I walked the better I felt. I literally spent the first two weeks after my surgery pacing the floor and sleeping 2 hours at a time.

Before I had surgery I had made friends with a woman that had hers done way before me. She was sprawled out on the beach on day 3 talking about how easy the surgery was and how she felt like she hadn’t even had anything done. By my day 3 I told her if I were feeling better- I would kick her butt.

I had a bit of buyer’s remorse the first few days. Honestly I struggled the first 5 weeks. I just couldn’t hit those Water and Protein goals. It does get better. It gets so much better.

I am 21 weeks out. It has been the best decision I have ever made in my entire life. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. Hang in there- it will get better.

I was sleeved on 12/15- I was extremely nauseous and I had diaherra for the first week, along with severe shoulder pain. (A heating pad and walking around my living room really helped it). I had surgery Tues, got home Thurs. , Fri I had tremendous pains in my calves, my Dr told me go to the emergency room. After being there about 5 hrs(still nauseous with diarrhea- I had an EKG, vascular ultrasound on my legs, blood testing- they determined I had low Ca & Mg. They told me go home and call my Dr.-they gave me nothing! I left ER & my DH took me directly to my WLS Dr., still with pain in both calves that I could barely walk. He told me take liquid Vitamin, Ca chews and drink Protein Drink, which I did and felt much better. Also, he told me stop taking Loratab, it can make you nauseous and take liquid Tylenol instead. (For me Zofram did not do much-when I stopped taking Loratab, I stopped Zofram too). This helped tremendously. Now I just take liquid vitamins, sublingual B-12 and Ca chews, and I am doing 1000% better. Also i have been able to go shopping - I just make sure I bring liquids with me (premixed Protein drink, Isopure, crystal lite, or crystal lite with protein vial in it). So it definately gets MUCH better! HANG IN THERE! Good Luck.

My second day was the worst by far. Gas pains drove me over the edge and I finally asked for pain meds. Day 4 now, and feeling somewhat better. Going walking today. Got all the fluids in yesterday, but missed the 60-grams of Protein by 10. I'll try getting it all in today.

Mars411 it does get better...I promise.

Thanks, everyone. I hope you are right. I will buy some GasX strips today. Problem is that I can't keep Water down and I was wondering if that was normal as well. Happy to know I am not the only one going through this and having doubts and that I will realize this was worth it!

I had a hard time with Water for the first week or so, but it did get better. I had to drink G2 because Water made me so sick. It does get better, so much better. I am almost a month out and I am doing so much better than I was the first few days. The only problems I have now is mentally. I have a hard time eating a few bites and putting the rest away, I want to eat the WHOLE thing lol.

I am glad I made this decision, but at times "fat felicia" as I like to call her will sneak in and tell me I made a big mistake and I could have done this on my own. But fat felicia never got me anywhere and always gained the weight back. So only time will tell for me, and for you too! Good Luck and congrats, you will be feeling better in no time and enjoying your skinny self.

I'm going through this same thing right now and have been freaking. I'm 5 days post op and the gas pain and gurgling is so awful. I have pain when I eat food - it feels like the food is displacing air in my tiny tummy and it hurts then I take another sip. This even happens with Water.< /p>

I cried so hard yesterday and regretted what I did. It's so good to hear this will end soon. Thank you for posting this.

I had my surgery on November 8th This year. My First 3 days were horrible, The pain, Gas discomfort and lack of energy drove me wild. I had to be re-admitted for Dehydration the 1st week after surgery. After the second week i started to regain energy and i did not have much pain when eating. i am now a month and a week post op and not feeling bad at all. i have lost almost 60 pounds and have been taken off blood pressure medicine. My back and legs are feeling alot better and it seems that as i get smaller i get more energy. I think if you ask anyone on the forums if they regret the surgery , im sure 100 % would reply with the no answer. Be strong and realize that everyday you will start to feel a little better. Follow your doctors instructions and you will be fine.

MissCastro, I did the same thing. I cried and started regretting what I did. But I after hearing everyone's stories, I am hopeful. I thank everyone for their support. I think I would go crazy without it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
