I Finally Got Gastric Sleeve Surgery On The 20th Of December. .

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I finally got my sleeve on December 20th. It was not as bad as I though it could be. The pain for me wasn't that bad. Only when I tried to get out of bed with no help. Things seemed to be going along great,,,,, until the vomiting began!! My surgeon came back to the hospital in the middle of the night to try to stop it. They gave me every med known to mad until it finally stopped..

On another note, I could tell right away that I am able to drink way more than they tell you to. Is that a problem?? Do the Doc's know we can drink more at one time but are telling us not to do so our stomach's will heal??

Thanks for any advide smile.png

I, for one, had major problems drinking much early on. I would advise (and I'm not a doctor) drinking very slowly despite the fact that you aren't feeling much restriction. Remember that your sleeve is numb right now, and probably still in shock because of the surgery. You definitely don't want to do anything that might open a leak in that new staple line.

Congrats on being sleeved, and welcome to the loser's bench!! :)

I found the same thing after my sleeve but by day 3 i could barely get anything down because it hurt my stomach so much. Doing really well now though. I think i'd try to stay on the slower side if i were you though just to make sure. Best of luck!

Mine was on the 20th too. No sickness but plenty of gas cramping...it was awful. Today I'm more aleart. I did get 64 oz of fluids in more like 52, but I'l shoot for more tomorrow.

At one point yesterday I questions why I did this to my self. But, since the gas is subsiding those thoughts have gone out the door.

I too was sleeved on the 20th. I am doing pretty good overall, but I don't feel much like doing anything. I have absolutely no hunger and am having to force down my Protein. Sipping Water all day long to stay hydrated. The soreness from the incisions is lessening and it's getting easier to get around.

It is surreal that I actually had the surgery and I'm sleeved. I guess that reality will sink in slowly.

I'm glad to be feeling more normal each day.

I was the opposite in regards to fluids. I was not able to finish an ounce cup of fluids in 3 sips as suggested by the bariatric nurse. I had to take 6 sips for a few weeks. It is getting better slowly.

How are you doing?

I am doing ok. I'm down 21 lbs since the start of my liquid diet!! I started at 242 lbs and now i'm 221!! I keep reminding myself to drink slowly. It is kind of starting to hurt if i take to big of a sip. I'm getting in about 65 grams of protien a day. I have been adding skim milk with my portien powder. I can tell though that i'm going to get sick of this protien shake really quick. The one thing I'm so thankful for is that I am not hungry anymore!!! I have no idea what to eat once I start the next food stage???

Thanks for all of your answers :)

hi DOS 12/15/11 -i'm able to drink w/out a problem - i confirmed a couple of times that its ok to drink "faster" she said as long as my stomach can handle it, no problem.

My problem is i can drink, i drink my 3 Protein shakes, but i have trouble getting my Water in. i drink alot of broth, and popsicles, but i know H20 is good for you, and once the shakes stop, and i have to increase my Water cuz i am afraid i won't be successful.

i drink the water, i don't dislike it, but i just can't drink that much, maybe the taste, i don't know. but i know i must drink more. plus the fact that i have to wait those 30-45 minutes before & after meals - its just hard for me to get all that water in - but i know most of you guys are successful

help

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
