What Didnt You Use That You Brought For Yourgastric Sleeve Surgery Hospital Stay?

Recommended Posts

really no wifi? mine has wifi. if my tv was free, i wouldve left my laptop home but unfortunately its not. :/

I lugged my lap top to the hospital and didn't use it. There was no wifi in the hospital and I was napping so much that I didn't need it. Less is more.

@jasleeve, your list sounds exactly like mine. You may or may not be allowed to use the Gas-X. I think it's a freakin' lifesaver, and I took mine anyway even though the nurse said no, because I didn't want to wait for the hospital pharmacist to prescribe something else for me (and charge me).

I took my laptop and ended up using it quite a bit on the day after surgery and the day after that. In fact, the warm laptop on my sore belly felt kind of nice happy.png . I used it to video chat with my family and small kids, and IM my friends. I'm not a huge fan of television so that was my preferred entertainment.

I also brought along a cross-stitch project but didn't do anything with it.

I brought along two "loungewear" outfits to change into once I was allowed to shower -- it did a lot to make me feel more human. I wore the comfy stuff I went to the hospital in when I was discharged. And yes, I agree, the chapstick is ESSENTIAL. I had this tasty raspberry-lemonade flavor that I really enjoyed.

Hello,

One thing not metioned here is a battery power fan. I took one and used it. My hospital said they would have to inspect a plug in one and the fan was my lifesaver. Hospitals can be hot and it was very cooling and soothing for me.

good Luck on your sleeve

The only thing on your list I did use was the toothbrush!

I was so out of it from the anesthesia I did nothing but sleep. I don't know how long you have to stay. I had surgery at 2 in the afternoon and went home before noon the next day.

I was never fully awake the first day and spent most of the next getting ready to go home.

Like you I wore the clothes there I planned to wear home (brought clean underwear).

Fortunately I never had gas so I didn't need my Gas-X.

Good Luck. And remember the less you take the less you have to lug back home!

I took my own robe, my iPhone, my Bipap machine, a book, my nook reader, and a brush. I didn't pick up the Nook, fought the bi-pap all night long, so didn't really use it, never opened the book. I used the hospital's gown, my phone and my robe. I also took a cape because I was always cold anyway, and it worked better for me than the hospital blankets.

I was ticked at myself that I had to lug all that stuff back home. I spent my first day in pain and not quite with it, quit taking pain meds that night, and spent most of the next day doing laps in the hospital. I don't remember turning on the television, although it was on most of the time I was there. I didn't watch it, though.

I spent most of my time sleeping. Like you I did not want to pay for TV. I didn't end up watching anything on my laptop, but it was easy to keep in touch with people who were wondering how I was doing. I brought a night gown of my own just to help me feel more normal, and I'm glad that I did. I also brought my Kindle but didn't end up using it at all.

Good luck to you!! It's so close!

Hi,

The things I used were; toothbrush and mouth wash-- cotton mouth was horrible.

ipod w/relaxing music to drown out noisy nurses and machines.

a small pillow to press on stomach when getting out of bed.

Good Luck! You'll do great!

I took very little - toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush and deodorant. I had my cell phone and work blackberry (and chargers) but used them rarely. I had TV in my room and usually had it on, but I honestly slept most of the time that I wasn't walking or seeing visitors.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
