Snacks?

Recommended Posts

My doctor is one who is adamant about 3 meals a day with no Snacks in between-at all.

I really haven't had any desire for snacks during the day. But I have my last meal about 6. I eat until I'm full-and that's all good.

But sometimes before I go to bed (about 10 or 11) I just want a little something-sweet. Most likely just an old habit.

So if you are someone who occasionally wants to have a cookie, or candy, or some nuts or whatever-When and how do you fit that in?

I am still only eating about 4 oz at a meal so that doesn't leave me room for a treat with my dinner. And I was never one to have "dessert" right after a meal. I always waited a few hours.

I don't want to start up a bad habit here. but neither do I feel I should NEVER be able to have a cookie or a bite of ice cream or a handful of nuts.

Wow

With kaiser we are instructed to eat 5-6 small meals a day. like 1/4 - 1 cup and sip sip sip sip Water. but i don't think your wrong for wanting that lil cookie or whatever just as long as it doesn't become a daily habit, i would think you should be ok. Good luck

I am starting month 5 and have been stable at 190 lbs for a month, only 10 pounds from goal but quite frankly comfortable at 190. I can eat full meals and have some desert (ice cream etc) and I snack on small candy bars, MMs, etc and I neither gain nor lose weight.

Nothing wrong with having a cookie, with or without sugar or ice cream, etc. It is normal.

I am also with Kaiser and they want only 3 meals a day, maybe a Protein bar or shake in between but they do want only 3 normal meals per day.

I didn't have the surgery just to give up eating everything else I would have done the bypass.

Enjoy a snack just don't overdo.

Doctors differ so much on Snacks. Some build them into the food plan and others are adament 3 meals and nothing in-between, some four or five small meals a day like OCMichelle above. My doctor has the 3 meals only and nothing else point of view. He says research shows people who snack are more at risk to regain weight. However, I must say I've read posts from numerous people on this site who have successfully lost weight and kept it off who have a nutritious snack or two during the day. It's when one starts snacking on slider foods that it can get out of control i think.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
