So Many Tests In The States, Not So Many In Mx

Recommended Posts

So many that are sleeved in the US have to go through so many tests before being approved for surgery. How is it that so many just fly off to MX and in 24 hours are sleeved?

I plan on going to MX, I have done a lot of research and also have chosen a qualified surgeon (not based on $).I planned on being sleeved in Jan. but finances have pushed the date back.

Before, my date was pushed back I went to the doctors and had blood work drawn and a physical. Everything was normal except my weight of course, 95 lbs to lose. I did that to have a comparitve point of reference.

Since then,15 lbs have crept on, suddenly I ache all over , ankles swell, I just feel really rough. Maybe it is because I am more aware but now, everything hurts more. It is strange like these last 15 lbs put me somewhere I have never experienced before, besides the fact my wedding rings no longer fit .

I wonder now if I go to MX in the near future, will I be turned down? More than that I wonder, what if I have heart issues, or diabetes or something else that did not show up, will they be aware even if I am not?

I have never seen on here where someone went to MX and they were turned down for surgery. Does everyone pass through? I am concerned with risky surgery, wasted airfare, time off from work, losing my hard earned deposit.

I do not have insurance. More dr. and bloodwork is soo expensive, am I over reacting?

sorry to ramble.

thanks for any input .

Yecats, I have sent you a PM. If you have the right Doctor in Mexico, you should have many tests there as well. Remember, it is for your well being. You do not want your health put at risk or anything overlooked.

Hi, I think it is great that you have had the pre op tests. Often when people go to Mexico to get there surgery they feel they won't need pre or post op help. When you go to Mexico you are paying to get a surgery and a few nights after. When you come home you should at least have a GP to be able to check your blood work and general health. Yes it is less expensive to go to Mexico, however that means the responsability is yours to make sure you have the right care when you get home. I went to Mexico to have my surgery and I don't regret it. I did have my blood work and endoscopy before I left and I have my gp to go to if I need help. I also use this and other sites to get information of what to expect, Many people here have a lot of knowledge. Best wishes

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
