Four Months After Gastric Sleeve Surgery - Still Having Nausea And Throwing Up A Lot

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I had my sleeve about four months ago and have lost over 100 lbs. I love my sleeve except for the constant throwing up. I can't seem to be able to keep anything inside. Some days are good but most days are bad. Some food, like chicken and bread seems to be stay in on one day, but if I have same stuff the next day, they wont stay in my stomach.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I asked my doctor and he says this is normal. If this is normal, I don't even want to think about what's abnormal. :-(

No, I have thrown up twice after 3 months but those foods are now tolerable. Once in a while feel like throwing up but don't unless I eat a bite or two too much.

you might want to talk with doctor.

I don't think that is normal either. I had issues up until the 2nd month post op and had some complications that caused it.

The only people I know that have had issues with eating and throwing up were either eating too much, too fast, or too big bites, had a stricture or had the RNY.

I would suggest seeing another doctor who will at least do a swallow study or scope you to make sure there isn't a stricture.

I agree. Perhaps follow up with a second opinion and make sure you are not retaining food in your stomach. Keep a really strict food journal, for reference, to make sure you arent developing a food allergy or allergies.

Good luck - I am concerned about the nausea part myself!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
