Hi guys! I'm Bcole and I am 24 years old. I just recently found this forum and have been lurking for about 2 weeks. My VSG was scheduled on January 2, 2012, however after my last appt. today, my surgery has been moved up to December 21, 2011. YIKES!! Right before Christmas.

I was not prepared (mentally) to have my surgery this soon. The nervousness is really starting to kick in! I have been dreaming about my hospital stay and I even had a dream that I was drinking a sprite and it just game right up and squirted out of my mouth! LOL so weird!

I don't have to do the 2 week liquid diet before hand, so I am thankful for that! I'm really hoping that the pain won't be too bad and since I've never been hurt, in the hospital, or sick before, i don't really know what to expect (except for the stories that I've heard and listened to on the internet).

Anyway, I know I'm going to need a little encouragement along the way, especially since the only people that know that I'm having this surgery is my immediate family. I'm hoping I can find that here and be a help to anyone if I can! So please send your prayers my way and any advice you have for me! I would really appreciate it smile.png

Welcome, Bcole! I'm fairly new to this site as well, with a surgery date of 12/27 so I'll be right behind you biggrin.png

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
