2 Weeks Out Gastric Sleeve Surgery - How Many Calories?

Recommended Posts

Hello All-

I am two weeks out from my VSG surgery and I am wondering how many calories I should be getting in at this point. I am lucky if I get 300 calories at this point. I have lost 31 pounds (16 pre-op and 15 since surgery) but I don't want the weight loss to slow down from eating too few calories. Any advice would help!

Two weeks out I was probably getting about 400-500 calories.

Protein shake x2 = 340

Chx broth = 150

At this point, just try to get your Protein in and liquids. Once your stomach swelling goes down, you will be able to get more in. Don't worry. It will be soon.

Thanks Pdxman! I know I should add another shake at this point but it is so hard to get them down. I drink the Premier Choc Shake from costco (30 grams protein). Looks like you lost a lot your first month so I will take your lead. Congrats on your weight loss!

Man I am going into my 4th week today and I don't have a problem getting anything down. I will drink a protien shake and then I'm starving in 2 hours. I have eaten eggs, cottege cheese, ect....and I get full pretty fast from those, but I'm hungry again in a few hours. Trying to do 5 or 6 servings a day. Think I'm eating too much? I lost about 25 since surgery on the 14th, but nothing in the last week.

Well your weight loss looks great! How many calories are you consuming? I have been using myfitnesspal.com for about a month now to track what I'm eating. I will say that my Dr. recommends only eating 3 times a day and drinking Water in between to keep me from feeling hungry.

prob 800 - 1000 I need to start tracking it closer. It's killing me not working out or playing raquetball right now. I'm trying not to get get too crazy, just not seeing the scale move this last week is frustrating. I am going to cut out carbs this week and see if I can get it going again. I was eating Soups that had some in them.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
