Thanksgiving Was Strange!

Recommended Posts

This past thanksgiving was really strange for me... strange in a good way!! I sat at the table with my tiny portions of the things I felt I could chew well and would go down well (I am 3 1/2 weeks post op). My family all had plates that were piled high with food. they gobbled down the food as fast they could and then went back for more.

I had my one small plate of food that was only a spoonful of each item I felt I could eat and still didn't eat all of it.. in fact only ate about 1/2.

I looked at my family's plates and thought to myself .... how in the world can they eat that much.. then I realized that I was right there with them last year, piling the plate so high and going back for 2nds or 3rds....

oh my what a few weeks and a smaller stomach can do to a persons mind and belly!! hahah!!

Mine was the same. I am 6 weeks post op. I ate very little, just a small bite of turkey and a little bit of sweet potatoes for the main course. I had a bite of cake for dessert as well as some pudding (that I made, which was low fat, no sugar). What I found to be the best part of it was that I didn't feel upset that I couldn't eat everything. I really was ok with it. I sat at the table and took a lot of time to eat what little I could, so I still felt a part of the dinner, even without enjoying the food. I realized that spending time sitting with family is more important than what I actually consume.

I hadn't seen a lot of my family since before my surgery. And nothing they served could have possible tasted as good as it felt when everyone first saw me and complimented me on my weight loss. That felt better than anything has ever tasted and that's what made me realize that not being able to eat much is soooo worth how good I look and feel now! What a great Thanksgiving!

I went through the same thing. My family took the "I feel so bad that that's all you can eat" route. I told them I was not wanting for anything and that what I ate was very satisfying. I also joked that my "portion" would serve as at least 9 more meals for me so I would be able to enjoy it longer than them. That got mixed reviews as you can imagine but I don't really care.

I was honestly happy to be able to drive home without feeling "food drunk" and to have thanksgiving dinner many more times over the next few days. Top it all off with losing 3 lbs! I wouldn't trade this for all the plates in the world!

Just prior to surgery, during my pre-op diet, I would have gladly given up my first born to get a massive plate of food! It is amazing how much your perspective changes. Everyone says that our stomachs got sleeved, not our heads but sometimes I wonder...

Me too! I still can't believe I did GREAT on Thanksgiving despite having a ton of people at my house and still being on full liquids! Granted I didn't cook, but I sipped away and had a great time. I could not have done that before being sleeved!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
