One Year Gastric Sleeved Hooooooray! Did Not Hit Surgeons Goal Of 135... No Worries

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

My one year office visit with my surgeon is this Tuesday and I know he's going to ask why I did not work harder to reach his goal. I'm '5"4 and my current weight 150 lbs, I'm not built like others I can wear a size 4 jean. So my plan is to explain to him that I love being 150 and I can maintain this weight for the rest of my life and I also plan on wearing my size 4 skinny jeans to my appointment....lol When I weighed 170 I was wearing a size 6 and now all of my size 6 pants and skirts are to big. Are their any other sleevers out their whose weight on the scale and clothes size look odd?

What I would like to know also, was it wrong for me not to meet my surgeons goal? I wanted WLS to save my life and to be happy currently I'm very happy with the energy I have to play with my daughter, and my ablity to workout for an hour and not feel like I'm having a heart attack. People I've not seen for a long time are amazed and they keep telling me how skinny I look and please don't lose anymore weight....I usually respond I'll keep that in mind thanks. I do plan on having implants and my bat wings removed but again I'm doing what makes me happy.

How many sleevers are fustrated because they have not met the goal set by their surgeon and have not realized or enjoyed the weight loss accomplishments they have achieved.

Take Care

Congratulations! I'm just about to start my journey, but I wanted to say that I love your attitude. For me this surgery is about regaining my life and feeling good about myself. I don't know what my ideal weight will be because I've been overweight since childhood, but I certainly don't want to choose an arbitrary number and always feel like a failure if I don't reach "goal". If I feel good about myself then I'll know I've reached the weight I should be.

Congratulations on how well you have done!

Who cares what that stupid scale says or what the BMI charts say. It's nothing but a number! You have changed your life, improved your health and THAT is the important thing!

All bodies are shaped differently, we all carry weight differently, which is why the BMI scale infuriates me.

I struggled to actually set a weight goal because I didn't know where I would feel comfortable or what my body would look like, truthfully all I really wanted was to wear a size 8 ;) Where I am now, in a 4/5 was beyond my wildest dreams :) And ya know, I am glad my surgeon never set a weight goal. He just wanted me to get healthy and to have my life back and that is exactly what he gave me.

If your surgeon seriously thinks you haven't lost enough because you didn't hit some magic number, tell him to bite you ;) I hardly think once he sees you (and trust me he will realize how tiny you are in those skinny jeans) that he will care about hitting some number he threw out there :)

Congrats on your year surgiversary!!! Wow, how can he complain about a size 4 skinny jeans! That's pretty awesome in my book, and as long as you are satisfied and feel great, then I would not worry.

:)

I can't imagine any surgeon being disappointed with 110 lbs in the first year! Great job! The most important thing is for YOU to be content and comfortable with where you are and size 4's sound awesome!

We are all sooooo different. I AM at 135 and I'm still in a size 10. So even though you are not at your surgeons goal, that shouldn't mean a thing. Rock those size 4 skinnies and enjoy : )

Hi there!

Your success had been fantastic - I am sure the doc will take one look at you in those tiny jeans and won't say a word about the weight. I know LilMissDiva rocks some very small jeans and she is in the 150-160 range (I think). You are not the only one. I think Fern and I are twins - 134 pounds and a size 10 pants. Must be those good birthin' hips ;-)

Congrats on your success and rock those jeans, girlie!!!

It sounds like you and I are built very similar. I have issues too being much smaller than the weight on the scale suggests. I threw all that out the window a long time ago! I'm 5'7 and right now my scale is 175 Lbs. Yet, I'm wearing sizes Small and smaller - and sizes 6-8. I can even fit some 4's though they are tight.

I can imagine how small I'll be once my lipo's are completely healed. I'm working on size 0!!! I'm thinking my lipos will get me to 2-4 so I'll need to lose maybe another 10 Lbs. So far with the results I'm about right.

Congrats on your successes!!! I think you've done super duper... and for what it's worth you are AT GOAL! Blessings to you and cheers to the new you!

It is so true about the lbs and sizes. I am 169 and in a size 6 skinny jeans. My Doc's goal for me is 155. Not sure if that will be my goal or not yet. If your Doc has an issue with 110lbs in a year, then your Doc has some more serious personal issues that he needs to get taken care of. Congratulations on your success, bask in it my friend!

Thanks for the words of encouragement and your thoughts regarding my surgeon's goal.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
