Pre Gastric Sleeve Surgery Worries

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

So I'm new to this but my surgery is soon (December 15th) and after reading some of these posts, I'm starting to freak out!

From what I remember I was not given a diet to follow preceding the surgery, but it seems like everyone was given one..so now I'm worried, has anyone else worked with Dr. Teixeira in the city?

Also, could anyone give me any shakes that I can find at a GNC that I could use to try out and see if i like?

Excited to talk to you all :)

I was given a pre op diet to do the 2 weeks before the surgery. My doctor said that usually overweight people have a bigger liver, and it tends to sit on your stomach. My pre-op diet is to help reduce the size of my liver, I am really overweight so I have been following the diet to the letter. I bought Now Sports whey Protein Isolate, the unflavored kind. I bought it unflavored to use it in the sugar free juices, in broths, tea, etc. I thought that way I would have more variety and I wouldn't be stuck with a big tub of 1 flavor.

yes yes,u should ask about your pre diet,it really makes your surgery recovery faster... and after surgery you will defenatelly need to be on a diet, water the 1st day and Jello & broth the 2nd or 3rd and the same with Protein Shakes there after. You will feel sick after surgery but belive me Iam 4 days after and i feel like nothing happened just a bit of pain.

Pink, You should call you doc's office on Monday and ask about a pre-op diet. Most people are on one for at least 7 days beforehand, longer if you have a higher BMI.

I hit GNC and Vitamin Shoppe and bought a couple of different shakes, but I found them gross. I did get some Click! Espresso flavored powder from Amazon.com that I really liked before surgery. Post-op, I couldn't stand any of them. I did Protein shakes for exactly as long as I had to, and then I quit drinking them as soon as I was able to get 70g of Protein a day from regular food.

Good luck on your journey!! :)

I found Premier Protein - 30 G of Protein and low carb - at costco. I am still preop, but find it edible.

Thank you all for the quick responses! I'm checking out GNC tomorrow to see if theres something that tickles my fancy.

Also I am calling my doctors office first thing in the morning to see what he recommends I should be doing right now!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
