Need Encouragement - No Weight Loss For 4 Days

Recommended Posts

I'm very discouraged right now. Is it possible to stall so soon after surgery (I was sleeved on November 7th, a little over 2 weeks ago)? I'm even ashamed to post this, but I know I have to get past that and try to find help wherever I can. If things aren't better by Monday, I will call my dietician (they were out of office today through Friday). I know I shouldn't be weighing every day anyway. But I can't seem to stop (sometimes weighing multiple times a day). It was so fun in the beginning. I am down 25lbs since Nov. 2nd (did preop diet for 5 days). I lost 7 lbs before surgery, and have lost 18 lbs since surgery on Nov 7th.

I've searched this forum and found that not getting enough calories can cause a stall. That's definitely the case here. The most I've been able to get in for a day is 370 (that was today). I really am trying but I get so full and it takes forever just to get down what I do. I even called the dietician last week (before I had stopped losing) because I was concerned about getting so few calories and nowhere near enough Water either. She told me that I was probably still very swollen from surgery and to try and focus more on the fluids than food for now so that I don't get dehydrated. I admit that I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I have little patience and hate it when things don't go according to plan (little bit of a control freak). It's been interesting to realize that for once, I'm not in control, my body is, and I can't force anything more down.

I'm logging everything in myfitnesspal app. Today I had Protein Shake for Breakfast, potato and ham Soup (blended) for both lunch and dinner, Snacks were 1/4 cup each of Wendy's chili (blended), pumpkin custard, and pinto Beans - all containing Protein. By the way, I've only been able to eat blended Soups like that since Monday, previously I was on cream soups. Today's menu is pretty typical otherwise. That sounds like so much food, right?

I know this was long and rambling, so if you've made it this far, thank you! I would greatly appreciate any thoughts, advice, encouragement, whatever. I've not been a member here long, but in the short time I have, I've been so impressed with the wealth of wisdom and support shown. Y'all are the best!!!

Look up the 3 week stall. It happens to most of us and I happened to me at 2 weeks too. Your body is rebelling and needs the time to recover. You dr. is right. Work on your fluids. Your body can live without food waayyy longer than without liquids. You'll get there and you'll start losing again. I found that once I relaxed about the losing, I actually lost more.

Yes you are in the 3 week stall. Don't fret! I was having a fit but trust me it is totally normal and it will pass. Don't even sweat it!!

Oma, you're right about that. Hopefully that will get better soon too. I'm only doing limited walking now because of a knee injury. I was scheduled for knee surgery on Nov 9th but had to reschedule because I was able to take a cancellation that came up for my sleeve surgery. My bariatric surgeon is supposed to let me know at my follow up appt on Dec 8th if I can proceed. I do think I should try some upper body strength training in the meantime though.

Thank you coffeetx! It sure does help to hear from those that have been there and are still losing. I just still find it hard sometimes to convince myself this is really going to happen. Silly I know. ;)

I have gone 3 weeks with no weight loss and then lost 5 in a week. It all averages out eventually. When Im not losing weight I try on different clothes and find that Im losing inches but not pounds. Try that next time.

Michell, Everyone here is right. That three week stall is a bugger!! Just keep doing what you know you have to do: work on getting in your Protein and your Water, walk as much as you can, do a little light weigts for your arms (to avoid the jiggle arms) and don't worry about it. I'm a classic control freak, but I've found that I have to let go of what I can't control here and let my sleeve do it's job.

I'm on MFP as well (Lissa912 if you want to friend me) and, at two months and three weeks out, I've lost nearly 60 pounds. I've been floating between 295 and 299 for over a week, but I didn't let it frustrate me because my clothes were getting bigger and bigger.

Have you read about NSV's yet? Those are Non scale Victories. Check out that thread in success stories and definitely keep your eyes open for them. It makes letting go of the scale obsession so much easier when you start seeing all the other positive things that happen besides dropping pounds! :)

Good luck on your journey!! :)

Michell I am very glad you got your answers! I hope you don't mind me crashing your thread. Perhaps the previous posters come back and help me out a little.

When you mentioned you had surgery November 7 and the maximum calories you have ingested is 370 my eyes nearly popped out! :whatchutalkingabout Yesterday, on my 1 week surgivirsery I consumed 650! It was not my highest day either. 739 is my highest day. Gulp! I obviously have no restriction yet and I drink all day to meet my Protein requirement and I also get hungry if I don't. All those calories come from Protein shakes, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup, a sugar free popsicle and & 175 calories from 8 ounces of Panera's French onion Soup (strained with no bread or cheese of course).

I am over the moon with a loss of 10.5 pounds in a week (all my weight loss is after surgery), but it is slower than others and I didn't lose any weight today. Am I normal??????? :blush2: :blush2: (I am laughing at myself as I ask this :arf: )

Stop worrying ladies! All is fine. Drink your water... get in as much Protein as you can. RESTRICTION does not happen for real until weeks later... everyone stomach had different swelling and such, so you just cant tell how things will go until they actually go for a while. Enjoy your Thanksgiving. When I eat out now, its all about the company, not the food. I am thankful for that!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
