Please Read-aetna Denied My Gastric Sleeve -help!

Recommended Posts

So I was supposed to have my surgery the day before Thanksgiving, November 23, 2011. The doctor's office just called at 6:15 pm and told me that the insurance company denied my surgery because my BMI was not over 40 for two years. My BMI is now over 40, but they said that they needed to see that for 2 years. I am so devastated that I just cried! Is there any hope in me appealing this? I hate Aetna!

So sorry to hear that Twndr3, do you have any comorbidities such as hi blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes?? I would still appeal it either way and stress your need for this surgery.

Great news. My dr also said that if they deny me, he will appeal for me too. So I'm trying not to panic while I wait. I'm hoping for late January or early February.

Hi I am new to this board & hoping to get gastric sleeve surgery & have Aetna.

I wondered if you had any other comorbidities or if you did manage to get Aetna to approve it without that?

You can PM or e-mail me if you prefer! I wish you lots of luck & congrats on getting the approval!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
