Eating Too Fast?

Recommended Posts

I am 1 week post-op and doing full liquids. I think I'm eating too fast. I can eat about 1/4 cup of pureed Soup or yogurt or whatever, and I use a baby spoon, but it only takes me about 5 minutes.

How do you teach yourself to slow down?

That's a hard lesson to learn - one that I haven't mastered - LOL. I've eaten too fast several times and received an unpleasant sharp little reminder to slow down. You said you're on full liquids right? Well one thing that you can do is take a spoonful of Soup and then put the spoon down, don't hold it. Take a scoop then wait a few seconds before taking the next spoonful.

and don't watch TV or be distracted while eating. i found i used to do that. that seems like alot in 5 minutes so slow down. it will become habit to you after a while, just be very aware of it right now. Like nikij said, put your fork/spoon down between bites-that's good info! and she is right. i am 12 mos out and i still find myself eating too fast and bigger bites and have to slow down. keep up the good work. that tightening squeez lets me know i am eating too fast and slow down..lol

It's pretty easy to eat quickly on liquids. That will come to a screeching halt when you move to mushies. :-) I say if it's not causing you physical discomfort, work on it, but also realize that restriction is going to kick in as your diet advances--and I think you'll find it a whole lot easier to eat more slowly at that point. I know I did/do!!

I agree, once you are eating more solids you will slow down after you get the slimes once or twice! Try to avoid them, they are horrifying.

I can say that i do not ahve that problem with eating my problem is fluids like water... Some times you just really want to chug down some Water and well that is never a good idea. I am 21 days post op and i am still working on the same 1.76oz protien bar that i started this morn. I have having trouble with the acid reflux. when i was on liquids my medication worked just fine and now i it just stopped dead in its tracks.

I think slowing down while eating is the hardest part of this for me. I was struggling with the not eating while drinking thing and pretty much conquered that but I still find myself scarfing down my food like it's the last time I'll ever eat or drink again.

Putting the spoon/fork down between mouthfuls (tiny ones!) is helping, but it's hard if the Soup tastes really good! lol..My issue was that I hate my food to get cold, so someone suggested that I get a mug warmer, this way I can enjoy my food longer and not have to worry about it being cold. Hoping to get a mug warmer this weekend!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
