Exercise for the New Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I am one month out now, and I have a follow-up appointment with my surgeon next week, but I'm wondering which type of exercise is good when you're at my stage in the game?? I liked Zumba before surgery, but I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet??? I've been walking since the surgery, but I don't feel like that's enough. What have you guys done that seemed to work?? My doctor is pretty evasive, and I don't know if he will give me some ideas on which type of exercises to do....Thanks!!! :purplebananna:

My doctor didn't want me to do very much besides walking until I was about 8 weeks out. I also had a hernia fixed when I had my surgery.

I did do some Wii Fit and Wii Active as well as some of the dance games. It gave me more variety but wasn't too much while my body was still healing.

Good question! I was sleeved almost a month ago and I've only been walking too. My dr told me to wait a while before I returned to Zumba. He suggested Water aerobics....I don't know....might be ok.

Started back at gym at week 3. First two to three weeks were rough, lose a lot of muscle quick with rapid weight loss. I sweated a lot and stamina was low.

Talked the PA and dietician, increased calories for additional calories burned, it helped get stamina back and sweating stopped. Around week 8, 5 weeks after returning to gym, my strength was back to pre surgery.

Workout still basically, 1/2 hour treadmill running followed by 1 hour of resistance training, cardio workout, ab workout, mixture of all of the previous all depending upon what my personal trainer plans for me.

Was it difficult or uncomfortable at first doing ab exercises? Situps?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
