Tmi warning!! - I'm SOO gassy now!!!

Recommended Posts

Okay,, this sucks to talk about but it's embarrassing and I want it to go away!!! I am really gassy now. It doesn't seem to make a difference what I've eaten or not eaten. It even happens long, long, long after I've eaten. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, but I hate it!!! Sometimes it's really loud, sometimes really stinky ( OMG!! I'm so embarrassed by this!!!)

I'm hoping someone has gone through this and has found something that has helped?!?? Please????

Sorry, can't hel p ya there. My husband said to me the other day, " do you ever have gas? We have been married 13 years and I have never heard you burp or poot." I told him, "well, of course not. That's rude." he'll be shocked out of his socks if I get that way after all these years. But I can tell you, pay back might just be fun :0DDD.

Sugar gives me gas. It happens pretty quickly if I eat anything with sugar in it at all, and seems to last for hours.

Drinking milk is also a problem.

You said it didn't matter what you ate or didn't eat, but you will have to experiment with removing certain foods from your diet and seeing if there are any changes at all.

I haven't found anything that will get rid of it, (like Beano is supposed to but doesn't work) but for me, not drinking milk or eating anything with sugar in it helps tremendously.

Girl I feel you! I have been the same way since the day of surgery. I really have to watch what I eat.

This is part of your new life. Watch what you eat. Though I can say the lower end has not been smelly. For the upper and lower end - If I know I have an important meeting coming up, I don't eat for at least 2 hours prior to avoid burping in front of people.

Daisy- are you cutting out refined sugar? Or natural too ( like fruit). You're right. I haven't taken out any foods because I figured because I have troubles even before I've eaten..... I didn't really think about the fact that it can stay in your system for a while. I don't drink alot of milk, so I think i start with sugar intake.

Thanks for the advice everyone!!

Yes, Refined sugar! If I go to my friend"s house, she is always baking Cookies. If I have one, soon after, I am tooting. Today is my bf's birthday and I had some german chocolate

birthday cake and I have been tooting ever since.

My sleeve actually caused the opposite. As someone with IBS, plentiful smelly (nauseating) gassious emissions were a part of every day life pre-surgery. I tried to get as far away from everyone as possible and even resorted to going outside but sometimes, I couldn't get away in time.

I have had minimal gas and it does not really have a smell since the surgery. My husband and kids (one of which vomited because of it) are VERY thankful for the change.

I guess this shows that all of our bodies react differently, huh?

You're lucky! I would love to not have gas. As long as I stay away from sugar, and I do for the most part, it's a lot better.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to cut back the sugar content and see how it works. Do you go by a number ( for ex; no more than 10g of sugar per meal? Or cut it out all together?) my Protein Bars are 2g of sugar and I LOVE them. I'd hate to give them up!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
