Heart Rate Monitors

Recommended Posts

Hello all, what type of heart rate monitor do you use while running or exercising? There are so many on the market and they range widely in price. I do not want to spend too much on one but I want one that works well and is user friendly. I like the watch style and I do not want a chest band. Any input would be appreciated, thank you.

What I use will likely not work for you due to cost and having a chest band but I'll share anyway. I use the Garmin 305 GPS watch and heart rate monitor. I adore it because it tells me my speed, distance, overall time AND heart rate plus much more. I can download my runs to my pc and it uses GPS to download my exact path.

It cost $125 and I must wear the chest strap but the data I get from it is worth it. This watch is made specifically for running and cycling. I will literally return home for it if I forget it before a run. I have found great success with paying attention to my heart rate while exercising. Best of luck to you!

Amanda

I have an older one with a chest strap, and am looking to replace it. I really wanted one without a chest strap, as I find mine to be uncomfortable, but as I did my research I found that the strapless ones aren't that great. In order to get a good reading you need to stop exercising for a minute or so, which of course means that your heart rate drops, and you're not getting a continous reading.

I ended up ordering a Polar FT40, which does have a strap.

Just my two cents...

I have a Polar I think it is an F7. My workout buddy bought all three of us one as a Christmas present last year--she got it off Amazon. I like using mine. When I got to work out at 24 hour fitness, the machines automatically pick up the signal.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
