I was in Mexico and didn't feel right from the start. After 2 days I told the doctors I knew something was wrong and they took me into surgery again to check it out. They said I had an ulcer that they missed while they were doing the sleeve, but I had a scope done before I left the U.S and there was no sign of anything. Butttt..... they said the ulcer caused a hole which they repaired. I felt better and returned to the U.S. I started having fever and pain, so I went to a general doc who diagnosed me as having double pneumonia so I was admitted into the hospital where they done tests and found out that I had a leak. From there everything went downhill. I was in the hospital another 2 weeks and had to do tpm at home for at least 6 wks. I thought I was in hell, but I was thankful everything was caught and fixed befofe anything even worse happened. I was lucky. My doc in the U.S. who I found on my own,( a bariatric surgeon who I begged to take my case ) took me in. He kept me on nothing through the mouth and only tpn until it healed on it's own. I had the mexico surgery video and he said it looked like it created an ulcer while being cauterized during the surgery, thus when I consumed liquids, causing infection. So I did antiboiotics through tpm. I eventually healed and was where I should have been after the initial surgery.

Sorry about all your problems! I am researching VSG in Mexico. Who was your surgeon???

How are you doing now? Sounded like things were looking up, is that still the case?

I am sooo glad to hear your leak has closed also!! YAY!! I expect to get my feeding tube out next week as well, I have been on soft foods about 10 days now. It is definitely harded now than the beginning - I am having cravings and such and the Protein shakes are about to do me in for the bathroom. The weight isn't coming off like before and I really hoped it would. It still is but at a much slower weight. As soon as this darn feeding tube is gone I need to get to exercising.

It's so strange how tpn works, I gained 13 pounds back after losing 24. I hope after the tpn stops, I can get the weight off quick. I feel miserable. I didn't realize how much better I felt with even a little weight off. I can't stomach any kind of Protein powders now..I'm doing protein shots. They don't taste too bad and you can add them to crystal light or whatever fruit drink you like.

Thank you ladies for posting all the complication stories. I too have a leak that was discovered a week after my surgery. It has been six weeks after my emergency leak surgery and I am on TPM and nothing but mouth. I spent three weeks in the hospital with lung issues due to the leak. It is good to know that I am not alone and that it does get better.

I have been waiting over a month to get into the nutritionist. I have an appointment, but I would love any advice on what to do diet-wise to lose weight before surgery. Like most of you, I have also struggled with my weight and have successfully yo-yo dieted myself into the above 300lb range. I feel like eating in a calorie deficit at my weight, it should come off, but it hasn't been and I have been tracking my food too.  Thank you

Howdy MindyG81 how are you today?

Hi, Mindy G, I am new here too, my surgery will not be until July or August, but I could use a friend. I see yours is coming up soon. Are you doing the liquid diet before surgery? How's it going?

I would take any advice on what to do for weight loss before the surgery, I have my first nutritionist appointment on Feb 9th (the soonest I could get in). But I was 12 lbs heavier than what my doctor submitted as my weight to my insurance, so I have to lose that plus at least 10 more pounds and I am struggling.

WOW by the Grace of God 17 years ago I went to Mexico and had a lap band put on for weight loss and my waist was 64 inches and That’s more than 5 foot around and 18 stone my weight was 375 pounds. Today I went shopping for not sweats and I succeeded. I found pants and a shirt at an awesome price at Burlington by the way. But the real story here is, today. My waist is 45 inches and my weight is 260. Both incredible numbers but think about this. My waist is almost 20 inches smaller around Wow that’s a brain wrecker. Still, I love my band I even celebrate it’s birthday 10-26-06 FYI-it’s kind of like choking yourself, and never letting go. And trying to eat. lol Life is good
