Fruits and veggies?

Recommended Posts

i had no restrictions but start off slow and easy. Peaches went well at first, and banana. Then try little bites of anything that sounds good. Really cooked carrots and brocoli were good too early on. I am eating salad even now at 10 weeks out!

At third week I had nectarines, peaches, apples and bananas - doctor recommend peeling the fruits for a few weeks. Now starting third month and not peeling anymore, just had half a grapefruit last night.

I like well steamed vegetables: celery, brocholli, cauliflower, turnips, squash, zuchinni, carrots, red potatoes, white potatoes.

My surgeon starts us on cooked veggies and soft fruits (no skins) at 2 weeks and fresh veggies (including salad) and fruits at 4 weeks.

So I would think that anything you tolerate well would be fine. Just be careful to start out slow and work your way up and avoid the more fibrous and gas producing produce. Canned fruits seem to go down easier than fresh or frozen.

After my Proteins I have very little room for fruits and vegetables-but I try to include at least one spoonful or slice with each meal. I have been working on the same pear for 3 days now-I just cut off a slice and then wrap and refrigerate the rest.

Man, y'all are way better than I was!! I could tolerate melon (watermelon and canteloupe), grapefruit (which I ate almost daily for a few months), and a few bites of Tomato up until about a month ago. Right around Halloween, I tried salad again and discovered that my sleeve would finally tolerate it!!

So my advice is, if it sounds good, is healthy, and is on your doctor's/nutritionist's list, give it a small try and see how it feels in your sleeve. You'll know pretty quickly if it's going to be something comfortable for you. If not, try it again in a couple of months.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
