Should I go to the hospital?

Recommended Posts

A little TMI but here we go. Day 7-17 Post op I had my monthly. Then for a few days I had no bleeding or anything. Anyways the past few days I have been noticing blood when I wipe I am a month post op now. Last night I went to qipe and there was a lot of blood, as much as I would have during my monthly. I have also been sore in my abdomen between my large incision and belly button and have been feeling unwell overall. I dont have a doctor so it would pretty much be hospital or walk in clinic. I was also out of country for the operation, so my surgeon cant really help me.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Surgery can wreak havoc on your hormones. Up to the point of saying you've been feeling unwell, I would have told you to ride it out for another week or so. Years ago when I lost a lot of weight without surgery my hormones were nuts. And I know a lot of doctors warn their younger women that they are ripe for unplanned pregnancies after this surgery. But, when you added the overall feeling of being unwell, then I get concerned. I'm assuming it's not the type of unwell a woman has when she's crampy and such.

Do you have any fever?

Are you staying hydrated?

Are you getting nutrituion?

Get back and let us know a little bit more. Thanks.

I am having trouble staying hydrated and am definately not tolerating any Protein. The past few days I am struggling to keep food down. I have thrown up atleast once a day. I am at the point that I dont even want to think of eating food. I am getting weak, can hardly walk up stairs but I know its from lack of protein. Also getting shaky. I dont have a thermometer but my husband says I feel like I have a fever. The pain in my stomach isnt really severe but it is annoying and uncomfortable. I am at my wits end. I dont know what to do :(

You should definitely get checked as everyone's experience is different and you don't want to take any chances. That being said, I had my monthly for 6 weeks straight after surgery, I wanted to pull out all my hair. and now I haven't had it for 3 months so I am seeing the doctor about it. Get checked hopefully it isn't something serious.

Go to the ER ASAP!

I was just over 2 weeks out and felt like poop. No energy, just felt wrong, stomach pain, nausea and couldn't drink Protein at all. Dr admitted me and it took 2 IV bags before I was able to give any urine...I was that dehydrated. It happened so fast. One day I was all smiles and sunshine, the next I was so tired and just not feeling right. I wound up getting my gallbladder out! Now I am sore from 2 surgeries in such a short time.

I hope you are OK

I was concerned about you back in Sept when you reported being diagnosed with Pneumonia. I think I posted a reply to you then to keep a watch on your symptoms because a Leak is commonly misdiagnosed as Pneumonia if you are early out. I have seen it many times on the forums. Wasn't your Surgeon Dr Aceves, and have you spoke to him? I am really concerned for you now, please go to ER and demand a leak test and anything else they need to do to make sure you are ok. And please do let us know how you're doing, we're worried about you!!

at about 2 months out, I started bleeding a few days a week lightly. (I have PCOS & only have TOM maybe 2-3 times a year at my highest weight of 265lbs.) That went on for probably a month or so. Then all the sudden I started bleeding A LOT every single day for probably 10-14 days. During that time i had my hemoglobin and hematocrit checked and it was super low 23.4 and 7.9. I was very pale as well.

Finally at a dr.'s appt. my OB/GYN told me she could do a D&C THAT day. So 2 hours later I was prepped for that and then when done, I received 2 units of blood.

Long story short, I know for a fact that my weight loss had everything to do with the onslaught

of TOM. My hormones were obviously WAY out of whack.

I lost 95lbs in 5.5 months. The last 2 months I;ve lost about 10lbs (my fault.Kind of took a break, but now getting back on track to lose the last 30-40lbs).

I would say it's your hormones. I would certainly go see a doctor as soon as you can. Good luck!

Hey everyone, still not feeling well at all. I went to the hospital Friday night and they took blood, they said they didnt see anything from the blood or urine except that my lipides were still raised from my pancreatis (developed post surgery) but they did clarify that they had gone down since 2.5 weeks ago. The hospital I went to does not do ultrasounds on weekends, so I have to go get an ultrasound tomorrow. I was constipated but that just cleared up for me a couple hours ago. Didnt help with feeling week or my sore stomach though. I have started to drink Powerade its high in carbs but I cant find the zero carb version and I need to keep hydrated. When I was in the hospital they had to end up taking blood from my feet because I was so dehydrated. I honestly dont feel as if the hospital is taking it as seriously as they should. I was experiencing chest pains and everything but they told me to just follow up with the clinic a few days after the ultrasound. I am going to go to my husbands gp tomorrow, he takes the time to listen and maybe he will help me more.

Thanks for the concern everyone, I will keep you updated.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
