I have been sleeved!!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, Well, as of today, I have been sleeved for six days and I have been amazed. I will take you through my journey for the last 6 days and try not to make this too long. On day 1, we (my husband, Mom, and Aunt) arrived at the hospital and up to this point, I never felt afraid, but a peace that I almost didn't understand, but I knew God was with me. I went to Potomac Hospital in Dale City, VA, my surgery scheduled at 2:30pm with Dr. Halmi, they took me directly to the surgical department and went directly to the OR waiting room. They took me to my room and began the pre-op stuff before surgery. After surgery, I remember waking up in my room and my family around me and looking under the sheet at my scars, saying, "Wow those look good". I thanked them and asked that they go home, because I wanted to just sleep. It was amazing, because I didn't feel any pain (the doctor attached a pain line in my stomach, which really eliminated pain). The nurses got me settled in for the night and I slept and ate a few ice chips. I did get up and go to the bathroom that night, which was pretty easy, except the bladder was still sleeping. The only issue was gas pains (they were rough at times). On day 2, I was up and down during the day, and still amazed, that I didn't have any pain, but I was a little sore. I ordered Breakfast (chicken broth/tea/water/jello), but wasn't able to really take a sip of anything without feeling the fullness pain. I walked the halls 2 times, which really did help with the gas and stiffness. They did the x-ray to make sure I had no leaks, and all clear. I moved to full liquids, but still couldn't get much in.On day 3, Now today was really interesting, I still felt no pain, little gas and was moving around pretty good, finally had a bowel movement. I ordered breakfast (cream of wheat/hot tea/water/jello). The order came and I was looking forward to a big bowl of cream of wheat and this is when the reality of my surgery came about, I lifted the top off the plate and their was my cream of wheat (A LITTLE CUP, LIKE YOU WOULD GET WHEN YOU HAVE ketchup TO GO) -- I was shocked, from that point, I knew (the reality) that my life would never be the same. Guess what, I couldn't get all of it down.On day 4, I was scheduled to go home, still no pain, which was great and I walked the halls 4 times and felt good. I rested most of the day until my husband and 7 year old son picked me up. Still not able to eat much, because my stomach was still swollen. Good day.HOME: At home, I still had no pain, but just some soreness and moving around really good. The first couple days, I couldn't really get that much liquid down, but on day 5 (Sunday), I could really get more liquid down (16 oz of water; 20 grams of protein; and chicken Soup broth)--exciting. I have been taking all my Vitamins. I have felt some burning around sore sights, but I know that is a sign of healing. I fixed dinner for my guys and that went well, because I was drinking all day, I felt totally full all day and didn't want to eat. I am very thankful and look forward to the days ahead. I am not going to weigh until my 1st doctor visit on Friday, October 14. I will let you know what the stats are. Thank you all for your support through this site and the prayers that went up!!

Congratulations! I was sleeved the day after you. Like you I had no pain either -- yeah the gas, but not really that bad. I'm back home an fixing meals for my husband and am stunned that I'm not even tempted to taste. Nice you have the cream of wheat option -- not included in my hospital's regime. Can you have yogurt?a little goes a long way. Good luck to you

Hello Zoelifechick,

I am so happy that everything turned out great for you! You are doing so well and no pain is AWESOME. I think it will take a while to get used to the portion sizes. It is a HUGE difference and will likely take some getting used to. I am running around like a mad woman trying to get all the pre-surgery testing done. My surgery date is 2 November at Fair Oaks. I hope and pray that I will do as well as you have. I so needed to read your post today. Had a couple of people say negative things about my decision to have WLS. I brushed them off. But, your post I believe was a sign saying that everything will be okay.

Take care and keep me posted on how you are doing.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
