Frustrated-please help me understand

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve 8/5/11. I am down 30lbs but the scale has not really moved in 3 weeks! I am reading what others are losing and I seem so far behind. I am not exercising everyday but eating far more less than before and am not lazy by any means.

Has anyone experienced this?

Any tips?

:(

OMG. I am 3 weeks post op and the scale has not moved in 1 week. I am eating way less and walking 1-2 miles a day. The only thing I can think of is that since returning to work my Fluid consumption has dropped off significantly. My rings that were once falling off are now tight. So, maybe my body is holding on to Water since I haven't been consuming enough? I'm not sure.

Well maybe I can make a few suggestions, I hope it helps... firstly you answered your first remedy. Try getting some physical activity in, at least 30 minutes per day. This can burn an additional 500 calories to your total. In one week that's an extra pound of loss you wouldn't get otherwise.

And second, for me it's not really HOW MUCH I'm eating, its more WHAT I'm eating. I'm carb sensitive to an extent. If I eat more than I should it will slow down my weight loss. Try to keep a log of what your eating every day. Mix it up and try new things. Try to figure out what is keeping you from losing your desired amounts.

I'd just like to also point out that remaining positive will keep the stressor hormones down. Be proud of your accomplishments, and try not to seek out the failure mentality that has plagued us for so long. Those days are far behind you.

All the best. :)

Your case is a little different. You are in the very classic "3rd Week Stall". For you, the only thing that's going to get it moving again is patience. :) The 3rd week stall can last anywhere from 2-5 weeks. Mine lasted about 10 days.

*hugs*

thanks Diva... I appreciate your insight. I hope to be a success similar to you. You are such an inspiration to me. I will stay the course, keep sipping, walking and watching what I eat.

Hi happy. I was sleeved 8/8/11 and have lost 34 pounds. And I DO exercise regularly. Since my sleeve date, I've had 2 pretty good stalls. They usually happened around my TOM. I think our bodies just have to adjust. Think of it this way, there's no way this cannot work. We eat less, drink more Water, and move more (even if you're not working out). This is the recipe for success we just have to be patient and trust the process. Each time I stalled I upped my Protein, upped my water, and upped my exercise. It's worked both times. You may think that 34 pounds is small potatoes compared to the weight loss success of others but hey, I'm losing and I'm happy to be getting healthier. You CAN do this. Trust the process and keep me posted.

I am 4weeks post op. My stall started week 3 and I hope it's only because of TOM. I noticed yesterday that I was in the bathroom quite a bit. So I'm hoping for the scale to move soon.

My 'three week stall' started at day 10 after surgery. My diet is supposed to consists of 3 Protein shakes/2 yogurts for 4 weeks post op. I'm not breaking 500 calories a day. I lost more the 2 weeks before surgery than I have after the 2 weeks after. I really hope this stall ends soon. I've very discouraged.

You might want to consider other things as well. Are you weighing yourself at the same time every day? Are you wearing the same things? I usually weigh myself in the morning after using the bathroom while naked. This happens around 6 a.m. every weekday, so the results are pretty consistent. But if I were to weigh myself at different times, the weight would be different.

My husband also recently pointed out that you can get different results by standing on our scale in different spots. He had a doctor appointment where a nurse asked him to adjust his stance because of this. So you will want to make sure your feet are the same as well. On our home scale, where you stand can change the weight by as much as 1.5 pounds, and we have a digital scale.

Other than that, I recommend you don't worry. I have days where I don' t lose anything at all and days where I lose a couple of pounds. Right now, it has been several days since I've lost any weight.

At the same time, I am paying attention to the non-scale things like how my clothes fit and the inches I've lost. If you haven't done before and after pics, it is never too late to start.

It is strange the places you can notice the weight loss. I recently noticed my wrists are smaller. :)

This article will help you understand the chemistry of stalls and why you need not worry. I find I will have a week or two where I lose only a pound or less- and then will drop 5 or 6 in a week. It makes sense when you read this!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
