favorite protien drink

First of all, congratulations on your band!! :clap2: Who was your doc? I only ask b/c most of them require approx 65 g of Protein a day to prevent PCM (Protein Calorie Malnutrition)....something that would be a challenge with just milk. My doc has a recipe for the 65 daily grams made of 4 c of 1% milk and 1 c of nonfat dry milk....yucko. :huytsao Not my thing so I do other forms of Protein. So, in a sense, I agree that milk does contain protein. Do you get your 65 grams a day? :) I agree with you on the protein being difficult on your kidneys, but that is only if you take in too much at one time. If what you say is true, it's a very interesting thing that perhaps I should bring up with my doc b/c he also has me taking Vitamins.

I am from Croatia, you know, one of those extremely small postcommunist contries of South East Europe. :biggrin1:

Well, I dont just drink milk. I also drink yoghurt and this special type of yoghurt, I dont know if you have it in the States, but its a speciality that comes from Causasian mountains. I dont know the word in English, I think its Kefir. To see what it really is, go here http://www.kefir.net/

But I believe in really depends on the age of the person. I am only 21 and I perfectly healthy(except being a whale :biggrin1: ), but the Protein Drink is really a big issue here. I guess some banded people drank both Protein shakes and other stuff at the same time and this made them gain weight instead of lose.

However, I see there are veggies here too, so how dont they get PCM, since they drink only soya milk? Anyways, thats just for the first month or so. Nobody died. :biggrin1:

I am not a fan of the protien drinks. I personally hate them, but I would not be having surgery without them.

A good one is:

1 serving protien vanilla

1 tsp frozen pinapple concentrate

1 tsp frozen orange juice concetrate

1 tsp coconut extract

4-5 ice cubes

Blend it all together. Kinda like a pina colada. I can drink this one!

I have been on the protien 5 days now and lost 13 lbs! SO it is worht it by far!

:faint:

It is interesting indeed to learn how other countries work with the band. Thanks for the link. I will do some research on that product. Initially, it reminds me of a product I used to take called HMF Replete http://www.naturallyempowered.com/html/products/pharmacy/super/hmfrepl.html . It contains the human strain rather than the animal strain. Maybe this came up so I'll start taking it again. :) Thanks for the feedback!!

Way to go Boo Boo!!! I will have to try your drink, it sounds so yummy.

Here's another one that I haven't tried personally, but was given by the instructor at our support group:

2 scoops of powder Isopure

3 c milk

1 heaping t sugar free chocolate pudding powder

Blend and put in fridge. shake b4 you pour to mix the Protein. Drink 4 oz at a time.

Oopps....forgot to write down the grams of Protein per serving. :phanvan

I know I am way far out of my liquid and mushy stage, but I still love Unjury. I put it in my sugar free hot chocolate with milk in the morning, and I swear it holds me over until about 11:30 am. I have also mixed it in with sauces and other stuff to boost my Protein intake. I haven't been feeling so well lately (a lot of pb's) and can't seem to stomach chicken (WHICH I LOVED PRE-BAND) so unjury is a godsend!

Ok I messed around this morning and tried to make something new. This one was SOO good, I made it for all 3 shakes! yummy...

1 scoop chocolate flavored protien

8 oz soy milk

1/4 bananna

1 tsp Peanut Butter (SMALL amount because of calories)

2-4 ice cubes depending on how you want consistency!

It was very very good.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
