Got turned down and I'm real bummed

Found out today that my employer elected not to have this covered under our plan. The $15K is out of the question - I'm a single parent!! I'm very depressed now - guess it's not meant for me to be thin.:D

I am so sorry to hear that. I know it sucks. I was told the same thing in dec of 05. (my hubby just happen to get a new job) If this is something you really want Don't give up. Talk to your employer, see if they will consider adding it into the policy before open enrollment. If you get enough people they just might do it and you won't know until you try.... Good luck...

Thanks sweetie - I'm going to talk to our insurance lady tomorrow and ask her what exactly is the cost to add it to our policy for the company... and go from there. If it's not so much, I'll consider paying for the additional cost if my boss will allow it. The part that bites is that we are a very small company and we don't get the best pricing. I'll keep ya'll posted. Hugs!!

Hello from Houston! I just wanted you to know you are not alone.... I'm a divorced mom of 1 and my employer also has WLS exclusion on our policy.

I first learned about Lap Band in March 2005 and thought long and hard about it.... had surgery Oct 2005. For myself, I decided I would keep my 6 year old car (paid for) - saved my tax refund $ and took a loan against my 401K for other half in order to self pay for the Lap Band - with the possiblity of not having a new car for a loooong time.

The thing is, since we're mothers, it's in our nature to take care of everyone else first. YOU deserve to put your health first.... at least consider all options.

I thought about different financing, researched several Dr's in Mexico.. but, finally decided to have a wonderful local doc perform my surgery.. while more expensive, I feel more comfortable regarding aftercare.

I wish you all the best,

I had to pay for the surgery myself. But really I borrowed the money from Capital One. I will pay it back over several years but it is worth it. Mexico is much cheaper and the surgery there was excellent for me. I recommend Dr. Rodriguez in Monterrey. The surgery cost me $9,000, but I got the deluxe package. You can get it for less money. I'm glad I did it.

AnotherMe's advice was right on, regarding moms taking care of others.

Good luck. Shawn

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
